Bolt

Its a sheet metal screw. Probably a #8 with a 1/4 inch hex washered head or maybe a #10 with a 5/16ths head.

Default nail

My understanding its to close to the edge Discount tire and others are not permitted to repair.

I've plugged my oem zp tires and then ran a good 3 track days and another 5k miles with no problems at all, and I run my car hard. The whole "don't track your car if you plugged the tire" is likely just tire companies covering their asses. And it was a cheap $5 plug kit.

Just check your DIC to make sure your tire is holding the air after you plug it. Good luck.

This. I have put more than 50,000 miles on my rear tire after this plug, and autocrossed it a few times. I have used this same kit on 8 other tires, including Toyo R888 for autocross, Michelins on Tesla, Honda, etc. Never had a problem. It is a useful skill to learn and quite easy. I find it is not always convenient to go to the tire shop.

There's some "cya" by the tire companies for sure, but there's also some obvious sensibility to the idea of using only undamaged tires on the track.

I have had tire shops say if outside the last tread they wont repair it, so just plugged it with a Red rope plug, the black ones wont take high temps- learned that on my motorcycle which usually was crused at 80+, the tool kit shown above works great. Need to trim it a few times .

What black ones won't take high temp? I ran ones from auto store in my oem zp tires at the track with enough heat to melt the tires... That's odd.

Those kits specifically say on them not for use on passenger vehicles (Note all the pics are of ATV, tractors, etc). That being said......I've used those kits in several tires over the years and have gotten well over 20-30K miles on the repaired tires with no issues.

Default What?

Your discount tire store must be great, here in So Cal they charge $32.00 to plug a tire, but only if they don't take it off the car.

It was a big screw
Even if I was satisfied of the tire repairer, I saw that he didn't have jacking pucks and that they were missing. So they had some difficulties to lift the car. But all was done good. No damage on the car nor rim. So I just ordered a set of two jacking pucks too.

There is a tire machine that makes taking the tire off easy, you can get it plugged (putting a rubber piece in there with some glue) but I wouldn’t trust a plug at the speeds the corvette goes — and I would quadruple check with whatever shop you are going to has the machine and won’t scratch your wheel up

I’d buy a new tire or find some take offs that someone is getting rid of and replace it

Default Nail in Tire

Funny shipped my ZR1 back to NY from Florida on Wednesday and they spotted a nail in my rear Tire— they checked pressure- it was fine so have the same Dilemma when I get back home...
For me rather then go through these Contortions maybe I will just trade it on a New One.. guess that will save some headaches...I am sure everybody agrees with that idea??????

Been plugging tires for 45 years. And that's what I'd do, in my driveway. Take about 20 minutes, since I'd remove the wheel to get better leverage. And I know race guys that do the same thing.

Just some food for thought, I have been plugging tires for years, and of course I get a nail in my PSS tires about two weeks ago... Tried to plug it and for some reason, it wouldn’t seal... Same slime plugs I use on my other cars...

Took it to Discount tire and they flatly refused to touch it because I tried to fix it.

it was an expensive lesson. And the nail was very small, I bought the car used with 6k miles and it was likely in there when I got it. Very slow leak, but leaking nonetheless.
