Is black that bad?

I went with Black, not because it looks great but everyone knows a black Vette has ~5 additional HP than other colors. Ha! Seriously either you wash or don't. If you are a weekly/monthly washer... you'll be fine. Boils down to the OCD in each of us.

Wife and I come out of the Harley world and damn near every bike you see is black. They look good but in a world of endless black bikes, you just look like every other one out there. I have always painted my scoots to stand out. Some were blue, the Roadglide I have now is pearl white. When we decided to buy a vette, we looked long and hard to find a white one and thats what we found. Now the customizing can begin and when we do go to an event full of vettes, ours will damn sure stand out in a sea of black.

The problem is if you wash it to much it shows more scratches and swirl marks etc. Seems like the more you wash it the worse the paint looks after time.

I dont know where all these white vettes are being sold, abu dhabi, because I sure don't see them on the roads. If you go online and look at used vettes, black and red far outnumber white ones.

It's a perception issue. Colors other than black and white do not somehow magically repel more dirt. A car traveling down the same roads in the same weather is going to pick up the same amount of dirt as any other car. If you think driving around in a car other than black or white means you don't have to work as hard, all that means is that you are willing to drive around in a dirtier car. If you strive to keep your cars at a given level of cleanliness, it doesn't matter what color they are. Besides, Corvettes are easy to keep clean. A Silverado is not. It takes a lot more work, which is why mine is normally dirtier. Buy what you want, of course. But to not buy a black or white car solely "because it is more work" strikes me as a sad state of affairs. Black is its own reward.

I'm sure i'm in the minority here, but if you use a good quality wax Black is as easy and looks as clean as any color. I used Zaino on my black Silverado and it always looked good. With the ceramic I bet it's even better. I didn't want a black Vette, but the next Silverado will be back to black with clear bra on the front and ceramic all over!

If one is willing to invest 4-6K, the only true way to approach a black car is to execute this sequence in order:
1. Stage 2 or 3 paint correction on entire car
2. Clear film the entire car (Suntek, Xpel, 3M)
3. Glass coat the entire film
Never worry about chips, highway sandblasting, marring, swirl marks, or waxing ever again.
Dust/dirt barely sticks for weeks without washing.
When washing, use a good quality lambswool mitt (apply lite pressure), car soap, and always air dry with Metrovac's Master Blaster 8HP.
Will always look like a black mirror:

I agree that black Vettes require a lot of work to keep them looking good, but IMO, it is worth the time spent.
I went from a '14 black Stingray to a "18 WGGM GS just for a color change, but my first C8 will definitely be black again!
BTW, my "16 CTS is "Stellar" black and I love it.

I have only had one black car (Pontiac Grand Prix GTP) and I will never have another black car. Way too much work to keep it looking good.

I was always afraid to purchase a black Vette (See list of my Vettes below) but because the 2013 and 2017 were great buys purchased out of the dealer's inventory, I feel secure with the color. I detail mine after each drive (I have a garage, important) which takes less than a half hour. I may go with another color on my C8 purchase, though.

Blacks awesome...it's not bad..I wash the car once a week. Looks good and I'm glad I bought my first black car in forty years of buying new cars.
I think my c8 will be torch red. I always like torch red with a black interior.
That said...it's a daily driver for me 11k a year. Garaged at night.
I say if you want a black corvette buy one..
Just don't be **** about it being clean. Just wash it one a week ..
Car always looks good and makes a great daily driver.
Maybe buy a foam gun to make it an easy it an easier process and minimize scratches for a perfect finish. I thought about buying one recently but never did...eagle one spray wax as you drive each week..takes literally 12 minutes flat for a weekly wash and eagle one wax as you dry.
I use an orbital polisher twice a year..car still looks excellent.
