Mechanical Roller lifters or Noisy Injectors
I'm an old school C-2 owner, have a new Grand Sport and I want to know if the engine noise is solid lifters or noisy fuel injectors, Thanks, Richie.

They are not mechanical, standard hydraulic lifters. It's the injectors that are noisy.

The lifters do play a part in the sound you are hearing. Since the introduction of the LS1 in 1997, the cam profile for these engines has a high ramp rate to help the valves open wide. This results in some valve clatter as well.

Without actually hearing the sound you are referring too, it's actually anyone's guess.
The direct injection system will make a ticking noise. If it's more a consistent "tick" and located towards the drivers side rear of engine it's probably the fuel pump push rod.

Whatever it is, the LT engines don't have a smooth purr to them...especially when cold.
