C7 ZO6 fuel leak while sitting stored
Woke up this morning to a VERY bad gas smell throughout the entire house. Found about 2 gallons of gas on the (epoxy -so none seeped into concrete) garage floor. Under the car near right rear wheel.
Anyone else deal with this ?? Strange thing is I'm in the Northeast and the car has been sitting idle for the winter and this just happened overnight. It's a 2016 with about 4k miles.

I have heard of this happening on the C6 but not a C7. Someone will chime in with some help. Good luck.

Also critters sometimes attack fuel lines and not just wiring of stored cars.
My oddest experience was with my Deere utility tractor a couple of years after I bought it. I was starting to mow the grass and the engine ran fine at idle but would quickly bog down at high RPM, especially under load. The problem was easily fixed. A group of mud daubers had built their nest around the cap on the diesel fuel tank and sealed up the vent in the process causing the tank to develop a vacuum with the engine running. I am not sure whether they chose that site because they liked the diesel smell or if the nest was an attempt to seal the source of the odor.

Friend bought a new 16 stingray and dealer filled the tank, he drove home parked it and next morning just like you a leak. Bad sending unit cracked, seems this is a somewhat common problem on some c7's. Had to remove a lot of components to get to it, bad deal. Good luck with fix

Roll that thing out of the garage and put the cigarette out.

Yep, I had the bad sending unit. Had to dismantle the entire back half of the car to drop the tanks to replace it. What a hassle. Good luck with yours.

we had mice in our garage. they ate both my wife's 2018 MB E43 and my 2016 Z06. both cars required harness replacement. MB covered my wife's MB, Chevy refused on the Z. cost me over 2k.
hard to understand why 1 mfg would cover and the other deny. both had similar damage as well as fix.

I just received a recall letter for C7 gas tank bracket leak...Check with the dealer...It's probably covered

My letter says 10 years or 120k warranty on '14 models for cracks in the fuel tank pump module left fuel tank. Says do not go to dealer because of this letter, only if you feel you have this problem!

I have not received the letter yet; however, on the my.chevrolet website it shows warranty extension Special Coverage #17469 to 120k miles or until 4-15-2026. Which I believe is this issue on my 16 Z06.
To the OP, good luck on your repair.

Sorry bjones, I respectfully disagree with you on this. I do a lot of work with several auto manufacturers - the limited warranty is designed to cover parts and manufacturing defects - not damage from other sources. Following this logic, where would you draw the line? My son damaged my paint with his bike; a deer ran into the side of my car; a rat made a nest in my engine compartment and caused a fire; etc.
I think it's above and beyond (way beyond) that MB covered this. Good on them. There are a lot of legit reasons to be disappointed with GM or Chev dealers (and all other makes for that matter), but IMO this is not one of them.
PS: I can almost guarantee you that MB corp did not know that the wire harness 'defect' was caused by a rodent. It was most likely a dealer accommodation that was covered as a 'defect' and not reviewed by corp because the dealer had a decent automatic authorization limit. The reason I strongly suspect this is that I work with MB among many others. The owner would likely never know this - the dealer would just say 'we'll cover it', or 'I spoke with corp and since you're a good customer they will cover you'. Then the dealer makes parts/labor markup in service. It's possible MB corp knew, but not likely IMO...........Could the Chev dealer have done this too? Maybe. But that really becomes an integrity issue.
