Default Thoughts on trading in my '14 for new 17, 18, or 19, wait for '20 new model C8?

Currently on my 42nd month's of outstanding ownership of my '14 vert Z51. Paid off, Daily driver, but Only has 17,000 wonderful miles, vert down 98% of the time. Love the color combo: Night Race Blue & Kalahari, since the dark blue metallic blends in well with the black bottom rear, & similar to my previous dark blue metallic C5 vert. Have GM's extended warranty out to 84 months.

Been getting monthly offers from numerous Houston area (out of state also) Chevy dealers about their special deals on leftover '17s, 18s, & now new '19s. Some great discounts on those new C7s, but hate the dreaded trade-in shock to my '14's value. Plus it'll get worse with each month.

So either I need to pull the trigger soon, wait til new model '20/C8, or keep & drive it til I squeeze max value out of it or til dies 10 - 15 yrs later, like my previous Mustangs & BMWs...

When a man see's a new car on sale and, uh, he gets to thinking about riding around in her and getting new respects. Before he knows it, his mind ain't right. He's got rabbit in his blood and he sells his 17,000 mile beauty with no flaws and 42 months to go on the full warranty
with apologies to Cool Hand Luke.

Relax, get your favorite beverage, play some mellow tunes, smoke 'em if you got 'em and take a walk out to the garage and look at that loyal trouble-free companion of 4 years. Costing you nothing more than a smile. How you gonna top that perfection with another one, same as this one, but with an unknown and less warrantied future?

You won't know until you find out. Go shop your '14 around. Tell us what you find out?

The problem is that you may have to settle for what your local Chevrolet dealer has in stock to trade on. I made a helluva deal on my in stock new 2017 C7 3LT convertible, FE2, from Mac Haik Chevrolet on I-10 West in Houston, Texas Nov. 2017. Out the door cash deal approx. -16% off MSRP inclusive of hurricane discount. Just depends what you want?

C8 = Auto Tranny Only = NO SALE!

Might as well get a minivan IMO.

Keep your car. I regret selling my very first '14. I had another '14 (again, regret selling), and a '16. There is absolutely no reason for you to upgrade unless you want the god awful 8-speed transmission and some cameras in the front.

A8 > M7 in terms of acceleration.

Just sayin’...

Unless there is a feature that you want that was not offered on the 2014...you are essentially trading for the same car. At 17,000 miles, you hardly drive the car averaging just a little over 4,000 miles a year. Not sure why you would even consider this unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

? why would you want to buy basically the same car you already have and evidently rarely drive? imo wait for the C8 a little longer.

Essentially you would be trading for the same vehicle. The differences between your car and a new C7 are all in the "nice to have" category. Nothing vital. You've got a car with low miles, you know that it doesn't have any current issues--and at this number of miles none are likely. You've taken the biggest hit in depreciation.

Unless you're willing to spend a lot of dollars to entertain yourself in very small ways, I just don't see it making any sense.

I’m waiting for the C8 although I wish they would include a manual transmission. I tend to be a traditionalist and can’t imagine not having a manual car.

Yeah, but there's a big difference in driving experience. If you're content to just stab and steer...good for you. There's nothing like rowing your own gears.

They're not that much different from yours. Why trade in for something that is essentially the same? I say if you're going to sell, wait for the C8 or buy something else for a new experience. Otherwise, keep what you have. It sounds like a nice car.

Unless you have a burning desire for a GS or Z06 I would enjoy the 2014 Vert you have. Save some bucks each month and be prepared if the C8 hits all your buttons.

Like everyone else has stated unless its a Z06, I would just keep the '14. Even the GS really isn't a worthy upgrade bc basically all you get is wider fenders for a premium in $ essentially. inside the car you will never know the difference outside of the Z.

I'd wait for the 2nd year of C8.

I recently traded a 2014 A6 3LT Z51 Stingray for a 2016 A8 3LZ Z06. Both cars in excellent condition. For daily driver use, they are essentially the same except when it comes to power and obviously the Z06 is in a completely different category. If you are not going with a Z06, I would not get a new Stingray/GS especially since you've got the 84 month warranty. As others have suggested, just wait for the C8 and maybe even the 2nd year of production when all the usual first year hysteria subsides.

If you are thinking of a Z06, maybe go drive one, but if so, you may be opening pandora's box. Although the Stingray/GS are fast fun street cars, they're no Z06. The Z06 is explosively fast in comparison.

I think once you try and trade you'll see what your car is worth you'll keep it. I just went through this last week on my 16 Z51. I'll
Be keeping mine...

OP. Going through a similar thought process although I would be doing it for the change from A8 to M7. Purely for more driving experience. My A8 has been flawless (although the Z06 trans appears to suffer less than the LT1 cars).

Two schools of thought.

1. It's just a car and if you can financially swing it? Do it. You only have one go around at this world. No dress rehearsals.

2. Keep it. Wait for a C8 which may or may not be better than what we have now (not everyone is going to jump on that train me included at least right from the start). you still have your warranty and the car is only just breaking in.

Me? I'm leaning towards option 1. But again, More if a complete change in driving experience.

Good luck and keep letting us know your thought process and experiences As many if us have similar thoughts about 10x a day lol.
