Can you lock yourself out of the car by leaving it in your gym bag if in the rear hatch - like in my C6?

Yes, that's certainly possible if it's out of range of the receiver, which it certainly could be buried in a bag in the rear storage area, and if you have the auto lock feature enabled. I don't ever use that because I only want my car locked when I hit the lock button on the fob.

Sorry about sideways picture.

I keep my fob on my key ring which is attached to a hook which I clip to my belt loops.

I keep my fob in my pocket when I'm out of the house, and on the bar that's near the garage/house entrance when I'm home. That way, when I see the fob, it reminds me that I'm not in my Vette, and I'm that much closer to the alcohol to drown my sorrows.

Have used the steering column receptacle only to check how it worked.
I do the same "3 check", except iPhone in left pocket and key fob in right

Geeze, Jerry, just keep it in your pocket. Anything else runs the risk of leaving it behind and causing problems. I've been doing keyless entry/ignition on a number of cars for years and have never gone wrong with keeping it in my pocket.

Left front pant pocket.
Putting it in the left rather than the right means it's less likely to be activated by seat belt pressure.

Since this thread is about key fobs, does anyone bring two key fobs with them in case one fails?

Just a spare battery for me. You can always use the cut key to run the car.

The cut key? How?

I know you can use the cut key to open the trunk, pop the door release, and put the dead fob in the slot to start the car, but I don't know a way of directly using the cut key itself to run the car...

I misspoke. I meant insert the key fob itself into the steering wheel slot.

In pocket to me means inevitably will go through laundry.

Mine lives on a lanyard, and stays around my neck while I'm driving, and "about town".

And case around it is required, as they fall apart and one day you'll find it in half, and will never find the rest of it.

I should've also mentioned that the workout bag option has its risks. One day in my 2015 while refueling (door closed, fob in bag) I couldn't re-enter the car--locked out with fob on the inside. My cell phone was also in the bag so I couldn't use the MyChevrolet app. I assumed it might've caused interference with the fob so after re-entering the car with a key hidden on the outside I did a quick test by moving the fob to the console and closing the door. Click, doors locked again! The hidden key was my savior in this case as it had been on other cars over the years.

When I returned home I checked the voltage on the 3v battery, which was 3.05v. The replacement showed 3.3v and I had no problems from that point until I bought my 2017. The lesson here is that the fob can get locked in the car despite good technology and intentions, so keep that in mind. It might also be a good lesson to change the fob battery once per year.
