Default Range AFM Disabler...Butter Butter Butter Butter Butter

Don't know what they changed in the latest build BUT my A8 shifts like butter now. I honestly can't believe it. I have been dealing with harsh 1 to 2 cold shifts for a year and a half now. Its like I have a new transmission in my car. So what this leads me to believe is a lot of the A8s wonkeyness has to do with the AFM crap. Whatever they changed or added to this new software build gives AMAZING results through the A8 as well as keeping it in V8 mode. Oh im so happy!

I'm waiting on mine to return from Range also Joy.

C5driver, I know of what you speak. My C7 felt like an entirely different car with the Range running. Everything just felt better.

interesting I installed the range but for now my a8 was as smooth as butter before and after. I have noticed less gas mileage around town. Small price to pay to potentially avoid issue later. I do not know what percentage of A8 that eventually have issues.

You have the same experience I have had, but don't notice gas mileage difference, although I am sure there is a little maybe. But I have 61,000 on the car and put the range on at 37,000 to avoid possible issues. But mine has always been really good. Can't really tell the difference with it on or off. I never had rpm fluctuations or rough shifts. It has actually been the best automatic I have owned. (knock wood)

No battery drain and it honestly shifts like a different car. Amazing.
Does feel like perhaps a little less gas mileage, but who cares

So just to be clear... not an update from GM but on the range AFM disabler.

I also have rough 1-2 shifts when cold and would like it to be better, thanks.

Right Range did something to the AFM disabler that has also smoothed out the A8s cold hard shifting foibles. It’s like a BOGO!

That will be up to you my friend. The Range will keep the engine in V8 mode all of the time. As I understand the A8 along with the torque converters have been updated, and the previous TC problems have been solved. You could drive the car awhile, and then decide. As far as needing one, no. The reason I bought one is my A8 is in the "could have problems" with the TC time frame. I bought for my own peace of mind.

As stated above the Range web site is the best place to buy IMHO. That way there's no question about free updates, and the warranty if needed. Range usually runs a $10 discount with free shipping. My cost was approx. $180.

Thanks much for your feedback. I was hesitating on getting one but if it resolves my cold start shifting I'm in.

Mostly drive in M mod.But when it's rare A Time i hated the sound of the engine bogging under slight acceleration shifting.
Thinking this isn't good.Installed about a 1k miles ago.Pleased

We got our range off of ebay about a year ago and it was version 7.7r which caused check engine lights. Sent it in to range for update about a month ago and got it back in four weeks and our car is a '16 Z06.
