Did you consider a Porsche?

I bought a 997 C2S over a slew of C6Z's that I tested. It was and still is a better car despite being down 150hp. Later on thought about a C7 but bought an Audi TT RS...that got totaled by another driver running a red light. Now I have an S4 with a C4 6spd coupe in the shop being built to be an HPDE car. I've also owned a 964 coupe...which I wish I still had.
The 911 driving experience is unique in the way one uses the engine in the back to full advantage. So you either like that or you don't. The build quality is far superior in the Pcars than any Vette I've ever been in. Vettes have the front engine V8 thing going which is cool in its own right. I like them both but if I only had to pick one it would be a 911.

I never gave it a thought really. I am sure to some that my reasoning my be simple but it is what it is. To me I do not care what Germany has going on in the sports car arena or what Italy has going on or what Asia has going on. I care about what the United States has happening within the competitive manufacture scene. So for me that means the Chevy Camaro and of course the Chevy Corvette. With Corvette Racing's proven success and the history of the Corvette brand I am buying more than just a car. I am buying an American Icon. Even if we never had the ZR1 monster and Id still back Corvette based on my thoughts above. ZO6, Grand Sport and Stingray all prove the fact you do not need to drop 6 figures to have a top performing dream machine. C5 and C6 generations are affordable and still look awesome and bring smiles to their owners. Corvette is a unique community with all types of Americans in all earning brackets. We all respect each other for love of this amazing hobby and what has come to be an American tradition. You don't get that with a Bugatti, a Porsche or a Lambo ect...

Damn this thread! It made me go look at a Macan GTS AWD, w/ PDK, and I really want one as a family hauler. However, no question I'll hang on to my C7 Z51 convertible.

Ok this thread and this forum is in need of some comic relief. Here we are debating potential manliness of Porsche products and the Macan in particular. well, the new Porsche magazine showed up in the mail today and inside of the front cover, Porsche has provided their answer...
What The F! Porsche!!!!! Your killing me here!
At least Corvette marketing will never rip the ***** out of their drivers.

I dunno about that. As aircooled 911's skyrocket in value (taking 912's with them btw) 914's are starting to creep up. Good 2 liter cars are trading on BaT at prices above 15K.

Was actually my first introduction to Porsche as a kid. Have an uncle who had one in an outbuilding on a family property partially disassembled for some reason. Actually, now that I think about it, it’s still there...

I have considered a Porsche everytime I have bought a Corvette:
C4 versus 944
C5 versus Boxter
C7 versus Cayman
I have never bought the Porsche, because of the poor $ value as compared to the Corvettes.....but I still lust for the Porsches.....

I was looking at 911s about 8 years ago and while I found them stunning, they just weren't for me. Having grown up in the golden age of big V-8s, I wanted the LT1 as a connection to my youth. Plus, the Porsche salesmen referred to themselves not as sales reps but as, and I'm not making this up, "Ambassadors." That sort of put me off : )

When I was looking for a car for my wife we looked at a Porsche. Salesman was an arrogant douchbag....basically wouldn't give us the time of day. Ended up buying her a 2017 Z06 instead. I probably owe the guy a beer lol. We both like the Corvette better.

I posted this in another thread about Porsche. This was my experience buying my 1989 911 Targa but it should be recognized that this was at a time when luxury car sales were in the tank because of the luxury car tax.
"It was an evening when I went to go take delivery at Heisman Porsche in Arlington VA. Dealership personnel formed a receiving line and clapped and shook my hand as I approached my new car that was displayed prominently in the showroom. A strolling violinist played in the background. When I got to the car, I was handed a bottle of Porsche champagne, flowers and a box of Godiva chocolates. Everyone clapped again as I drove the car out of the showroom. It was an unforgettable experience."
Needless to say my experience buying my 2018 Stingray was not the same. However, this car is so awesome that I could care less.

Someone already mentioned this earlier, but those of us who have been fortunate enough to own both, tend to have very positive things to say about both.
The Corvette is more than a car. It’s an experience, and a club, and cultural icon all at the same time.
Porsche is just like that too. It’s an experience, a club, and a cultural icon. They both have played a role in automotive history, Motorsports, and have a role to play in the automotive future.
No reason to dis either brand or vehicle, they both have earned their place and earned their respect, both have already stood the test of time as well.
Almost all of the negativity in this thread around Porsche is by those who haven’t tried the Porsche experiance yet. Likewise, any negativity thrown at the Vette from the Porsche forum by people who haven’t experienced the Vette via ownership isn’t really valid commentary. You cannot truly experiance either of these vehicles or brands from a single test drive, or judge them by a single dealership or sales person. They are both bigger and better than that.
Both cars have class, performance, and status. One has a better build quality in some areas. But the largest gap between them is the colossal value proposition of the Corvette.
Taking all else into account, the Corvette’s “power per dollar” value cannot and will not be touched. Add that it’s domestic as well, and count me as a very proud Corvette owner.
(Who also happens to be a very proud Porsche owner)
