Did you consider a Porsche?

I used to have a 997 Carrera, but I wanted the Corvette for something different. The Porsche was a great car, well engineered and put together, and was trouble-free (excepting the horn I had to replace twice) for 6 + years. But, my C7 is more fun. It drives great, the v8 is magic, and the car just looks sexy. I would like another Porsche someday, but it needs to be a Turbo S - my good friend had one and it was a rocket ship. But, I'll always hold on to my Corvette. The manual shifter is soon to be extinct I'm afraid, so the Porsche will be fine with the PDK, and I can get my manual shift heebie jeebies satisfied with my C7.

I was at the Porsche dealer this am to service my Macan. I took a walk around the lot and they had quite a few interesting cars, including a new 700 HP GT2 RS (in the white wrapper), MSRP $349k, and a fairly "base" GT3 (*not* an RS) for $163k. I have to say the GT3 was really a killer car. Agate Gray, 7MT, full black leather with red seat belts, center lock wheels, a couple of performance options, and nothing else. Very, very little orange peel, good paint. The build quality and interior is really stellar, and the price isn't much more than a GTS (there was one there for $146k). These cars are expensive to buy and service, but they really are nice.

I still can never get over the egg like look for a Porsche. To me they will always be a nicer looking VW Beetle. You can put lipstick on a pig but its a pig. I like wide body masculine cars like the zr1/z06/grand sport, Aventador SV, Etc.

I find that the styling on a 911 is timeless. Time will tell if the C7 will be generally thought of the same way. I think the C2 falls into that category. The difference between the two for me was every time I got in the C7, I felt I was missing the gold chain, pinky ring and backwards baseball cap for the wardrobe of the day.

I was living in the UAE and my previous car was a 2011 Cayman with 10k miles on it. Mint condition. I really liked the look of the Cayman. Great fit & finish and was reliable. It was a great car. I loved how it handled and was small enough to get around tight spaces, though it lacked grunt torque and wasn't really in a hurry to get up to speeds. I came reallly close to buying a 2017 Cayman S, but was too late on pulling the trigger on a bid.
I hated the excessive cost of maintenance. $300 USD for an oil change and filter was exorbitant. Anything for maintenance was beaucoup $$$.
I returned home to Canada with my head-set on getting a C7, but thought I'd look to see what the base Cayman or the S series, would cost here. Unfortunately their price ballooned once I tallied the options which were already on the Corvette. It was really an easy choice. My wife liked the look of the C7 much more which made the decision a slam dunk.
I won't say I wouldn't buy a Porsche again, but they, I believe over price their cars.
Btw, the C7 BLOWS away the Cayman on all levels. Having the free oil changes for my Z51 is a nice bonus as well.
Can you imagine paying over $300 for an oil change & filter?!!!

To answer the original question in post #1,yes,I owned 7 of them before I bought my 1st Corvette in November. But I'm older than the vast majority of folks here.

Not for long, price & maitainence costs changed my mind. Glad it worked that way.

Ditto. I used to work for Porsche years ago as a Service and Parts Manager, so I have always appreciated their appeal. However, the Corvette offers very similar (or better) performance in a tried and true configuration of RWD American V8 horsepower and torque. It sold me.

I seriously doubt this place is "chock-full" of owners in their late '70s. I am sure there are some but "chock-full",no. Perhaps chock fullmeans something different to you than it does me.

For some reason I picture you on a porch swinging a cane in the air yelling at the neighbor kids about the meaning of "chock-full".lol (no disrespect...just made me chuckle)
