Any confirmation from Ken or a reputable source. Is this based on a CA law or statute?

Ca and 9 other states consider extended warranties sold by folks other than the manufacturer an insurance policy. And sales of insurance policies require an insurance license in the agent's state and a non resident insurance license in the buyers state. The old GMPP was sold as a warranty by GM so isn't an insurance product. Ally bought GMAC so is now considered an insurance product as it is not manufacturer managed.

Last few years, GMEPP has been considered a warranty, however it is managed by a 3rd party insurance company, not by GM employees. So I wondered how long it would get away without being sold by insurance agents. My guess is the determination was made that it is an insurance product not a factory warranty.

Now getting an insurance license is not trivial but not all that hard. And getting a nonresident license once you have your home state's insurance license is trivial. But apparently none of the National sellers have decided to take that step.

I kinda figured this would be the answer. I know that folks in FL were also having trouble buying plans from out of state sellers. I guess I am glad I bought mine when I did because I think MD is also one of the states that regulates these as insurance policies. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Will be interested to see if Ken decides to get licenses to sell in those states that regulate these plans as insurance policies.

Last year, I purchased my GMEPP Platinum extended warranty from Abel Chevrolet in Rio Vista CA over the phone for less than Dennis was asking.

Ask for Rich.

Last year I also bought 5 additional years from Rich, the service manager at Abel Chevrolet on my 14 c7. It is also a Platinum extended warranty,
but this time is from GM. The cost: $860 with $100 deductible; otherwise, the coverage is identical to the original factory warranty. Where are you folks coming up with the $3000+ crazy premium policies?

Like buying a car, these warranties are negotiable. Unfortunatly, the dealers are probably well aware that you have to buy from them now. Wiggle room just decreased significantly. Your probably better off setting aside monies for future emergencies now.

P.S. Love the weather here, hate the politics, traffic, illegals, fires, etc. Many world class driving roads here, unfortunately too much traffic to enjoy them now. Anyone here from West Texas?

I love watching everyone bash California. I was born in San Francisco and have lived in the Bay Area for all 43 years of my life.

IT'S ALL TRUE! This state is nucking futs. But it is beautiful. I can go mountain biking 365 days a year. We have a ton of mountains - a ton of back country. There's just a ton of stuff to do. if it wasn't for our politicians being bat **** crazy, CA would be awesome.

Oh well. Atleast I have a brand new Vette on the way - and California still has a bunch of great race tracks all over the place to drive on!

Thanks for the advice. My 2015 only has 2 months left of bumper to bumper warranty and I live in San Diego.
Wow- $860 is very reasonable! Was that the price for your 2014 Vette?

Fitcher quoted me: 60/75000 for $1,260

How long did you own your car before you bought the coverage?
Does it add 5 additional years beyond the 3 year warranty (2014 + 3 + 5 = 2022?).

Did you get the Chevrolet Protection plan?

Lol, I don't get the State bashing either...been a lot of places and wouldn't even consider leaving CA. There is not a single state that is perfect, they all have their good and bad...kinda like picking cars. Some guy like Vettes, some guys hate them, to each their own.

Dont forget to bring your "laguna" exhaust to Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway, a stock c7 z06 blows about a 97 and sonoma is frequently 96db and laguna is 92.

I just purchased a 2016 coupe & was thinking about extended warranty since mine runs out in 10 months. I asked my friend who is a GM engineer in Michigan. His response was, "I don't feel the extended warranty is worth getting especially if you like to work on cars. Plus I feel we are good at component and vehicle level validation testing for 15 years and 200,000 miles."

HMMM? He is a GM Engineer so not surprised at his answer but a failure of a critical electronic component can result in a +$1000 repair in a heartbeat. Not sure there are many folks out there that can work on a modern Corvette other than basic fluid changes. These plans are like insurance. You buy them for protection that you hope you will never need. Yes, they do make money for the company selling them so you can play the odds and self insure. To each his/her own.

Mileage is a big factor in pricing.

There are 3 tiers apparently

1. Under Warranty less than 12,000 miles (and less than 3 years)
2. Under Warranty (so less than 36,000 miles and less than 3 years)
3. Out of Warranty.

Rumor is that prices jump $1000 between 1 and 2 and at least another $1000 between 3 and 4.
