Help understanding front Aero plate attachments
I unfortunately have to install a front plate soon on my 2017 Grand Sport since I will be moving to one of the states that require it. I have the Front Aero plate bracket (GM part 22830070) and have been trying to locate the proper 2 attachments (GM part 23129601) My dealer, and others say they are discontinued. I have been told their is an installation Kit that is now replacing those parts (GM part 23278407) Has anyone used this new kit and do you have pictures?
I assume the kit includes two 23129601 parts or its replacement. Here is a picture of what I think I need
Thanks

I live in Ca and have one of those plates that grasps on to the grill. It has the front plate mounted on it and it sits in my trunk. If I ever get stopped I will install it and ask for the officer to sign off on my fix it ticket he just gave me and then pay the $10. Or if he won't I will pay the higher $25 and forget about it. Santa Monica is bad as is much of LA County. Mostly it is bad where they use red light cameras that need the front plate to identify you.

It looks like you can still buy the part (23129601) at gmpartsdirect
https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...ainer-23129601
That's where I bought mine when I upgraded my grill from the stingray to the Z06 style.

Has anyone been successful with a the Z06 grille mounting kit, 23278407? The clips would not fit into my aero mount, 22830070, even with significant force. After looking at it further, even if I did get the clips in the aero plate cover and attached to the grille, I have no idea how they would ever come off short of reaching a hand behind the grille somehow. I ended up using zip ties...

The openings on the Stingray bracket are obviously much smaller.

On the Z06/GS grill you can just ziptie the plate to the grill. Find a washer that the ziptie will go through but the head won't. Go through the washer, through the plate, around a bar in the grill, back through the plate then washer and then fasten the ziptie and tighten it up. They will eventually break but you have quadruple redundancy.

I did install the plate carrier with the 23278407 attachments on my 17 GS. I was less than thrilled with the fitment. When the barrel screws were fully tightened there was still some play both fore and aft and side to side. With the wedge shaped locks pushed into the grille, it was difficult to remove even after the threaded "slugs" were removed from the retainer sections. I had to go through the grille with a 90˚ awl to get the wedges to release. I am presently carrying the assembly and plate in the GS and trying to work out a better solution.
Oh yes, in order to install the new style retainers I had to trim a bit off of the lock in tabs on the plate carrier in order to get the retainers installed. The new style retainers are apparently of larger diameter than the originals. If you can get a pair of the original style retainers, I would do so although I do not know if they are actually any better than the replacements. If I devise a better way to securely mount the bracket I will post my solution.

If the state is TX, it depends on where you will drive. Bought my first vette in 2012 never put the front plate on either one I have owned. Got a ticket 1 time in a little small town in east TX. Paid the 50 bucks and avoid that town when driving up that way now.
Live in Houston never been hit with one. Btwn 2 vettes about 60k miles in the Houston metro area.

Well I used the plastic plugs to attach the plate to the grill !! But I first used the aero plate to conform my license and a small black metal surround !!! I then attached the aero plate and drill 4 holes in the plate where you would now attach the surround plus the plate in one step using the normal screws to attach a license to any car !! Wayne

Gs/z06 front plate
No two ways about it: this attachment kit (PN 2327 8407) is AWFUL. It’s poorly designed, cheap lightweight plastic, and the instructions are even worse. Actually, the instructions included were for the Stingray kit not the GS/Z06. I don’t know if this was an improvement over the two-sided tape approach on the C6, or the hidden screw approach on the C5. Regardless, you would think for $90K Chevy would have engaged some engineering talent for this part that at least graduated elementary school and work with drawing instruments better than crayons. Think save pennies, cut corners, cheap, cheap, cheap. I digress...
The kit is still available from GM Parts for $32 or from various GM parts websites for about $22 plus shipping that varies widely from $4 to $25! I ordered a set from the dealer after I broke the barbs on the ones supplied with the car. I broke those as well and just ordered another kit from www.gmwholesaledirect.com for $22 plus $4 shipping (USPS Parcel Post). With any luck they’ll be here in 2 weeks. I’m going to try and plastic weld the four broken anchors to see if I can beef them up since I’m sure the two new ones are going to fail as well.
I have have to run a front plate in Illinois due to the numerous hayseed wide spot in the road municipalities that jump at the chance to ticket us mopes without a front plate. Actually, the Illinois State Patrol is pretty cool about this issue. They don’t pull cars over without a front plate as primary offense. If you act like an entitled jerk to them and think being disrespectful and rude is the way to go, then yes, you will get a ticket as an add on to whatever other offense you must have committed.
I absolutely love the car but this front plate mounting is just crap. Additionally, I ordered the car with black wheels with the red stripe and got chrome lug nuts! What were they thinking? See paragraph 1 above. The radio/nav system is a bit outdated but it seems to work albeit in a sluggish fashion.
I’ve had the opportunity to talk candidly with C5 and C6/C7 chief engineers at Bloomington Gold about their accomplishments with this fantastic car and they both said, off the record, “we were lucky to get this far”. The bean counters are the scourge of GM and quite a few other American companies.

I have a base car and honestly found the aero license plate bracket pretty easy to install. Yes, the instructions are not the best, but not hard to figure out how to attach it. And it seems to be just fine for holding the front plate in place.
Sorry you are having the negative feelings about your C7.
