Default All good now with XM, but I feel that they tried to shaft me

I posted last night that my xm was not working after getting 2018 out for the first time since Nov.
Looked at my window sticker and with 2 LT pak was to get 1 year XM.
So I called and they said they turned it off because of inactivity????
(And no I didn't get any extended time for being off.)
Told them that I had a year and they checked and finally turned it on
( while trying to sell me on a year subscription) so now I have until Aug 24 free XM.
Now, do all companies turn stuff off if your are not using it???
So Chevy should have cancel warrenty and my insurance should have canceled also automatically.
Has anyone else had this problem with XM??

XM = MGS (money grubbing scum) I wouldn't give 'em a nickel myself, but many love it. Glad it turned out okay for you, and of course, they won't give you the extra time you were shorted... surprise!

I put my account on hold for the winter months and need to call them next week to either completely cancel my account or sign up for another 6 months. If they don't give me the $30 deal for 6 months I will be cancelling. I am not looking forward to the call.

You think they were trying to shaft you. Put your mind at ease, because I guarantee they were trying to shaft you. Dealing with them is terrible. I didn't think anyone worked as hard to upsell you as Verizon, but XM takes the cake.

I don't get how they can justify their pricing in today's age of spotify and pandora.

I wonder how they know you weren't 'using' it. The XM technology in cars is all one-way as I understand it, from the satellite to your car. Your car does not communicate back to the satellite.

They should start nagging you by mail or any other means they have at their disposal a month or so before your expiration. Beware of the $30/6 mo. deal, as if you don't call them before the expiration date and either cancel or renew they'll renew you automatically at the top-gouge price, then say you owe them since you didn't cancel on time. When I had my C6 I tried that for a while, as I'm good with keeping track of dates, but it was still a hassle and for both my C7s I just let it go. I don't miss it at all and have a few K of MP3s on a thumb drive that's fine for my needs.

Avanti called them "money grubbing scum" and I can't argue with that assessment, and OnStar is no better. Whatever you do don't give either outfit your CC#. When I hassled with SiriusXM in the past I always had them send me a paper invoice which I paid with a check. In predictable money-grubbing fashion they wanted another $2 for an invoicing fee and I told them to take $30 or nothing. Each time they took the money.

Best way to pay for XM is with a disposable card. Sorry, forget what they are really called, but you go to the store and buy one for 25 or 30 bucks and pay with it instead of your own. No issues when you want to cancel and they keep wanting to bill you anyway. Except for the endless emails.

What you need to do is call, and tell them you want to cancel. They will try to keep you at the regular price but be persistent and they will cut the price in half. Not pleasant dealing with them. When I received the "good" price they then insisted on a credit card. No way, not with them. I told them that I was the victim of identity fraud and said I don't give out card info, so either bill me or forget it. They bill me. I do this each time for renewal. Don't just let it lapse; they automatically continue the service and will whack your credit score if you don't act. They are a classic example of a scum company.

XM is a PITA. My wife puts up with them, but I hate their business practices and that they have announcers that talk about some BS I could care less about. I find myself switching channels every minute when the announcer comes on. I want MUSIC idiots!

I once used a virtual credit card and when it expired I forgot to cancel. They keep it going, and racked up a bill. Then when the wife went to straighten it out, she paid. Last time she got 1 year for $60 I think it was, but they are such a PITA I would just rather they burn in hell.

After reading this thread I'm going to cancel. I haven't missed their service for the last 6 months. I have several good stations in my area and over 7500 songs on my ipod which works find in my car. Appreciate all the posts reminding me what a PITA company they are.

Added: Jeez, what a hassle. Just go off the phone with a soft spoken lady at Sirius/XM. When I asked to cancel they said I had a balance, which I do not as I suspended my account in December for 6 months. Then she tried to "give" me a home radio. I said I am not interested. She finally agreed I didn't owe anything and she cancelled my account.

I am not a fan of dealing with XM but I think in this case what happened to the OP was normal. From time to time they send a "refresh" signal to the radio which is their method of keeping active subscribed radios operational and having those that don't resubscribe lose their ability to receive XM. Over winter storage required a refresh signal to "sync" the XM receiver to the account again.

XM has always been a pain to deal with and in recent years OnStar and Direct TV have joined that category. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought my new 2018 GMC Sierra Denali HD that the dealership took care of canceling XM on my 2006 trade and XM credited my account. I am sure this rare bit of good service will be negatively repaid the next time I have to contact them. But at least they aren't Frontier communications who I dumped last month after converting my security system over to cellular linked and they are the worst I have ever dealt with for customer service.

I didn't renew XM in the Corvette last year and I probably won't this year either. I keep the subscription active in my ATS and pickup but I didn't use it enough in the Corvette to justify even the lowest rate and especially not the hassle in keeping the lowest rate.

no reason to this anymore, you can delete payment methods from your account after you pay.

And even if you call then they seem to not honor that and add a year of charges! You need to cancel in writing with a registered letter and make copies for yourself with a reciept#
NEVER give them a credit card # for payment!! Better yet just listen to you phone-ipod- or the wind rather than deal with that $$$$ grabbing company! I M H O

I won't give them any credit card info. They are complete scumbags. I send them a check.
