I think it is important to distinguish between daily driver aka commuting vehicle and only car. It is a lot more feasible to daily drive a Vette to work than it is to have it be your only car.

Whether a Vette could be your only car depends on your needs/lifestyle and there are many things that either require a 2nd vehicle or at least make it very desirable to have one. As a personal example, I do things like:
  • drive to hiking trailheads on gravel/dirt roads with heavy washboarding
  • take large dog(s) hiking where they get wet and muddy
  • pick up bags of topsoil and composted manure at a nursery
  • drive in snow on unplowed roads where there is some accumulation
It is not a matter of desire--the Vette physically wouldn't make it through some of those conditions and/or the dogs wouldn't fit inside the Vette. And I didn't even list the need to transport more than one extra person.

I have a 2016 Chevy Cruze i use as a DD. Its much more useful than DD the Vette. Not as fun mind you but I dont worry about scraping or where I park. Also have a pickup and an older trans am plus a Harley. Kinda makes the Vette more fun when you do use it.

Insurance can be huge depending on your state, is terribly costly in Michigan where I live. I have a DD and a C7 and have considered getting Michelin Sport Alpins for winter C7 driving and getting rid of the DD. (We would still have my wife's Jeep Cherokee for hauling and extreme conditions, which would make this easier.)

I too much winter and I have a 2nd car. I've had 4 Corvette's and I've always had a second car.

Another factor you left out is the cost of insurance on two cars, this will depend on the the company and how your cars are classified for business or pleasure.
Some places you go you may not want to park or leave the car. If you can afford it go for it

Insurance probably won't change much because you'll lower the number of miles on your Vette. You can also drop stuff like rental car coverage.

Mine literally went up less than the cost of rental car coverage insurance I dropped. I only have liability on the 4Runner, but it's $500k limit. It was something like $110 extra every six months which was more than offset by mileage reduction in C7 and dropping rental car coverage.

I agree with others that you're over-thinking this. Enjoy your GS! If you want/need another vehicle, get one - but don't let this diminish your enjoyment of your C7 - best sports car value on the planet.

BTW, what in the world are you doing to only get 15 mpg with your GS? We're averaging around 23.X and it's 40% around town and 60% at 70-80+ mph (and no AFM).
What in the world are you doing to get 23+ mpg? I never believe people when they make these claims. The ONLY way I see this happening is if you have 2.73 rear gears, A8, and you essentially idle up to speed. And by city you mean you live in a rural area with no stop signs or stop lights.

Its funny because I see all these low mile cars as if they were driven just a few hours on the weekends. I bought it drive to work. Why drive a boring *** car? You get one life.

I drive it 5 days a week/ 750 miles each week and then I don't drive it as much on the weekend. The inverse.

Yes, people need trucks and sedans and coupes.

I never understood the boring DD (where you spend much of your time) and then the barely used special car. On your death bed - will you be thinking about how you could have spent more time in an econo-box?

All of these comments are related to living in SoCal. I cannot help you if you chose to live in a frozen tundra.

Over a 68 mile commute I am getting 24 if I stay out of it, but I am still at 90+. If I find a "friend" on the highway, that goes to 19.

Default Confusin' Things

Save money and Corvette are mutually exclusive.

Save money and Yaris. There is a wedding of like minds.

I always thought C8 should have been like, what, McLaren F1? Center driver station with two seats on either side, slightly behind the driver.

Highway I totally believe 24mpg. I've gotten 26mpg on the highway in my Z51 m7 using ECO mode at 85mph. But I was quoting someone that said 40% city driving and 60% highway. I just don't buy it. I feel like some people think I'm going to believe they have a magical corvette. That is even exceeding the manufactures observed mpg rating and we all know they drive it very easy to achieve those numbers. I just don't see how, maybe I just have a lead foot and maybe some people are embellishing.

I have a Camaro as a second car, not to save money, but to drive places I don't want to drive or park the Corvette. Especially places around town where entrances are too steep to keep from dragging the Corvette front end.

I have a Subaru Impreza as my beater to take to work and places where parking is an issue. When I drive my C7, I try to make it a special event-complete with good weather as driving in the rain is just not fun. I also have playlists made specifically for driving my vette. The extra costs are worth it to have a beater.

Yeah. Understood. It’s a 6.2l v8. You have to drive it very nice to get above 24 on a long term basis (hwy).

Also the cost cost of fixing whatever goes wrong with eco is more than the cost of the fuel.

I can easily get over 24mpg pure highway in my GS with stage 3F and stage 2R. More like 28-30 pure highway at 70mph with eco mode.

In my Z51 I got over 30 regularly at about 70mph. My C6 got about 32 and once 33.

If I were you I would save the Corvette and buy something that is not as fun to drive. That way when you turn 200 years old it'll be in fairly good condition and might be worth several thousand dollars.

Sitting in traffic with my car brings me no joy. I'd rather be driving my truck if I'm sitting in traffic (or going to Home Depot, etc).
