Yep, that version of 0W-40 has been around for years, and it's not the right stuff.

As promised by Chris (Service Manager ) at Malouf Chevrolet, I went back for my oil and filter exchange. Initally the put in the European Spec 0W-40 not the new 0W-40 specked for C7. In and out in less than an hour, 10th quart of new (right) oil waiting for me to top it off.
Feeling good about this relationship

You have a great dealer. You are fortunate.

It's great to hear about a good dealership doing the right thing.

Actually GM released a bulletin a couple months ago stating the new oil would be required, but most dealers didn't order until there were 2019's being delivered.

We ordered a few dozen cases 2 months ago, received half a couple weeks ago and another 20 cases this week. It was back ordered from most of GM's oil suppliers, but they're delivering by the date the order was placed. If your dealer doesn't have it, they we're asleep at the wheel when it should have been ordered.

Another bulletin telling them to use the new 0W-40 ESP on 2019 C7's.

So far, nobody has found a GM bulletin saying the ESP 0W-40 is officially approved for the previous C7's. The bulletin writers apparently don't talk to Tadge...
The new bulletin does say the new Mobil One ESP 0w40 is authorized for use in the 2014-2018 Corvettes as well, but there is nothing about them covering it under warranty. As I understand it currently, owners are OK to use the new oil, but it's not covered under the maintenance plan.

The new oil is a little more expensive and we typically lose $3-$6 dollars on every 5w30 Mobil One oil change we do so losing more for an oil that's not required is not going to happen.

It will likely be a while. GM stated it's currently for use only when performing oil changes at the dealership. We are not allowed to sell over the counter as of yet.

GM probably doesn't want owners of 2014-2018 Corvettes thinking they need the new oil and buying it before owners of 2019 vehicles are able to get maintenance done on their vehicles that require it.

I would recommend continuing to use the same Mobil One 5w30 that's worked great for several years until there is ample supply available. This new ESP 0w40 isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It seems the word BACK ORDERED is gm's new favorite word. Everything I have to order from gm is all back ordered lately. It's a good thing we have 20 plus loaner cars to give people. I ordered oil also said back ordered , got 2 cases , they showed up in 4 days. I ordered rear sway bar bushings they came up back ordered. Lol

Do you have a link or bulletin number I can use to get a copy?
Thanks!
