He was on the DRs and the skinnies. Has never (thankfully) done that before months street. My theory is the skinnies gave false impression on correction usually done with real front tires and by the time it was realized....it was too late. . Anyone who has driven qith skinnies on knows the fell is just different when turning even at lower speeds. Because the car isnt responding as quickly. Just my thoughts watching him handle that car in many different situations.
From my experience corvettes And other swb low cars are tough. By the time they are too loose it's too late. Something bigger sedans and the like give a bit of warning beforehand. Noticed that coming from my modified G8 sedan to my C6. Anything done in my stroked G8 was manageable. The slightest slip in my C6? Hairy...Only turned controls off once.....once was more than enough..
on this car? I wouldn't dare. Just too much respect for that torque and unpredictable snap oversteer.
ps. When the car is repaired I'll try to post up a video or at least a link advising what was fixed. Amazingly they put the stock wheels and tires on and he took if for a cruise and it tracked straight. Inspection underneath was clean.. no bent or broken arms etc. The 3/4 skirt on the drivers side took the brunt of the hit. The passenger side is perfect. I gave them to him when I got my full length ones. I had them Xpel'd as well. The Xpel was all holding that 3/4 skirt together still. That stuff is amazing..

"Hey y'all watch this!"
To quote the famous American philosopher Forrest Gump, "Stupid is a stupid does"
The dim bulb who managed to do this obviously failed to search Youtube for "Fishtailing Corvettes"

ya, Z06's don't ever lose control to the right, never.... right??
I know there is lots of speculation on why but it always happens, I don't see other cars roasting tires and heading into the ditch...
1200 HP and it goes straight, hmmmm.... on a sloping surface....

he actually is. If you knew him youd know it. Self made. But...Like all geniuses. They sometimes feel like they can control everything. A momentary lapse in judgement in his own car (not like some other popular shops who we won't speak their names here but those in the know are all too familiar with crashing Customer's cars - plural, including a C7Z).
shame of it was myself and our other close friends were inside the building and didn't know he took the car out to do THAT and before we knew it we were told what happened. Thank god nobody including himself was hurt.
a little background on what I think caused this lapse in judgement. - this was probably 20 minutes after he handed out a trophy for a "best in show" which was built honoring his father, who passed away a couple weeks ago after being in the Hospital for a month suffering with cirrhosis of the Liver. One of the more painful ways to go. His father was his mentor, a rebel of sorts who rode Harleys all of his life and crashed a 69 Corvette so bad he was reas his last rights back then.... he was also a GM mechanic for 30 years. A wonderful kind man who i would be proud to call him my own fsther ans treated him as such.
After the curb hurdling We all felt terrible and partly responsible as he wasn't himself probably for that reason. There were so many people around with cell phones and video cameras there was no point in trying to minimize it. He embraced it. Like a wakeup call a but noe with a bruised ego and we move on. Sometimes we all need to be humbled a bit.
Furthermore, it isn't like any if us haven't done something similar at some point. Most times we luck out and think "man what was i thinking?" In his case, this was the BEST scenario for an otherwise unwinnable situation.
On a side note - bowling green Kentucky and the corvette team should be proud. Underneath that car nothing cracked nothing bent just the splitters and the ride rails (whatever theyre called two of them one driver's side one passenger side underneath front bumper area) which are bolt on, got scraped up. I was amazed.
Maybe it was his father who steered him around those trees because it could have been catastrophic.

He must be a good driver to have dodged all those trees with all that smoke.

Obviously, he had traction control off.
Ask him if Stabilitrak was on or off? To my understanding, the system will always intervene to get the car pointed in the exact direction you are steering it. It will brake individual wheels and reduce engine torque.
I’m unsure how Stabilitrak’s “individual wheel braking” works when you already have the brakes pressed.
I’m unsure if DR’s and “skinnies” changes the equation. I think the system constantly compares the steering wheel to the yaw (the direction the car is pointed) of the vehicle.

Asked him (after scalding) he said stability on. Only tapped once.
also asked about the skinnies and he said he cut the wheel and skinnies were still plowing not turning. Lessen amongst other things is don't forget a car is on skinnies especially ice cold drove 500 ft.
should have full damage report by tomorrow. I will update as it goes. So lucky.

vettpapaw - asked him that as well. Said he lifted but the wheels speed kept them going and the DRs now greasy began to slide and rotate with the car.

If you follow closely, at the 28 sec mark, it begins to snap to right & he quickly lets off gas. In the original 9 sec car video, someone else speculated as to why "if stability control was on, why didn't it straighten him out". S/C can't correct a massive over-correction or yaw, only when it "begins" to slip off driving line such as apex on track or in the twisties most of us experience. When car begins to snap off center you need to to lift gas, stay off brakes, & steer out of it. True racing experts can add to my very limited experience.
