It's ironic how many here do exactly as the driver that killed the bicyclist did, on a daily basis. Doing 70, 80, even 100 mph or more on city streets, then reporting it here. No biggie some will say. The 76 yr. old man bought the car to drive fast. He succeeded. Sad.

"Alex Jacoby wasn't under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he drove into and killed Robert Joseph Esparza"

Horrible judgement was the only influence evidently. Portland International Raceway is there for a reason. Why do terrible things happen to good people?...

As an avid cyclist and a Corvette owner, I'm disgusted with Jacoby's actions. He got off light with only two years in prison. I'm sure the Esparza family is going to sue for wrongful death. This isn't over.

Sadly, it won't bring him back though.

Maybe the news story will serve as a wake-up call to someone here & save a life.

Just this past weekend, some guy started a thread about how you scared your wife driving your C7. One guy wrote that he drove 100 mph to do it. A member I was very surprised to state such. A man in his 70s. Just like the man that killed the bicyclist. I don't get why some speed at all on city streets and public highways.

No way would I ever go that fast on a city street. 5-10 over maybe but that's it. Depending on traffic and what not.

I drive at night all the time, at my job and no I don't speed in company truck at all.

I've seen a number of bicyclists do stupid stuff and have had to brake for them when they do.

Not saying this guy was in the wrong, but too many have no lights or reflectors on their bikes, ride on the wrong side of the road, and/or just run straight thru a red light without even looking to see if a car is coming.

It's not just C7's. I used to do a Forum run to Yosemite and stressed we are in a National Park, where tourists are clueless and stop in the middle of the road. We will do the speed limit or below in the questionable areas. My tours are not speed or tire tests. I still had idiots that cranked it up and created very dangerous situations. I simply stopped doing the runs.

The moral of this story isn't C7 stupidity. It's that if you ride a bicycle or a motorcycle and some ******* flattens your ***, well, WTF, you had it coming to you for doing something so stupid. This guy KILLS this cyclist through astonishing wanton reckless and deadly driving - and he gets a whopping - wait for it - TWO YEARS in jail. He'll be out on parole in a year. WTF??? That is such a rubber stamp on murder it's hard to fathom - except that's the prevailing attitude in society.

It blows my ******* mind every time I read a story like this.

Just flatten them, no summonses will be issued. Serves them right for getting in the way of your truck.

Grimlock 13's username is perfect, and his post is an ideal illustration of the mindfuck attitude that anyone who dares venture out on public roads on two wheels is up against. I do it, but I am well aware that it is a suicide mission.

I believe you took my post wrong.

Are there idiots on bikes, yes. Are there idiots in cars, yes.

I never said I would "mow them over"

, what I was saying is if you are riding around on a bike at 3am without lights or reflectors in dark clothes and don't stop for stop signs or red lights and not look out for cars. Well what do you think can happen.

It's the same as driving a car without any lights on and ignoring any traffic controls. You might get into an accident.

Again not saying the guy that got run over was at all in the wrong. The jackass in the vette was 100% wrong due to the speeding regardless of the bicycle rider.

It's a sober reminder to all drivers of any type vehicle. It is especially so when you lose your license to drive---for life---by causing someone else to lose their life. That would be tough on just about any one of us. Let's be smart(er) out there! I am reminding myself as well.
