Damn I'm torn...to trade or not to trade? TR Z06
I am guilty of rolling my eyes when folks ask the forum for buying advice and yet here I am.
I get it...when you are on the fence on such a large purchase you need to sound off...and since my wife is bored to tears with this stuff, I come to you folks hat in hand. I'm down to the wire and on the fence about trading into a new Z06 Corvette, and trust the opinions here immensely. This is a lateral move, primarily motivated by my desire to get back into a manual transmission car AND getting a great deal.
Currently: I own a 2016 2LT DSOM Z06 A8 Convertible, Nav, PDR, black top, black interior, black rims, w/ 14k miles. They are offering $62k for my trade. Ugh. which is within range of most online tools. They started at $57,500 (REALLY?!). I was offered as high as $68k by another dealer on a 2019. I'm probably the least happy about the trade value on this deal.
New Car: I'm looking at a 2017 3LT Torch Red Z06 M7 Convertible, Carbon Fiber Ground effects, Comp Seats, black interior, black rims, black top. The MSRP on the 2017 is $102,265, and currently GM incentives and their discounts totall -$17,665 (17% off MSRP) for a sale price of $84,600. On a 17 month old car (built in Oct 2016) this strikes me as a good deal, but not a GREAT deal...I could be wrong.
Color: I LOVE my Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic, and I'm not a fan of the 2019 Sebring Orange, so that is a non issue. TR is my 2nd choice behind DSOM. I will be happy with TR.
Comp Seats: I'm a big guy but in decent shape, and fit in the Comp Seats ok. Not my first choice. I've tried a few cars AND drove in Comp seats at Spring Mountain and really didn't notice them (good thing). Added bonus, they look really cool!
Carbon Fiber & Interior: The 2017 has a 3LT Interior, the Carbon Fiber dash, and ground effects, which I LOVE, but it is just window dressing.
The Future: With growing speculation (and I know full well it is only speculation) that the C8 will not have a manual, this is a big reason I'm looking at buying a manual Z06 while I can.
Short-term factors: Finally, full disclosure, in the short term, my 2016 is better for me...I'm getting shoulder surgery on Thursday, so my A8 I could probably be driving within a week or two...the M7 might be up on my lift for a month plus...but long term I REALLY want a manual again. I've been talking to this dealer for a few weeks, and I went to go see it last Saturday, ready to make a deal but they asked me to wait until May (odd) so they could see if there was more flex cash they could put into it....which other than the GM incentives, nothing more materialized on their end. The car is beautiful and has been showroom kept. CF ground effects have not been installed to keep them safe on the showroom floor.
I am leaning towards doing this if they can get me a better rate today (and thus lower my payment a few more dollars), but is this a good deal? Great deal? or Pass?
Thank you in advance....

I have an auto and a M7. I would do it just for the M7. But effectively your about to spend 20k for a M7. Just make sure you actually want a M7 and your not just using an excuse to buy something new and shinny.
That said, I vote, get M7. If you discover it’s no longer for your shoulder, a new C8 is around the corner. Personally, with the rumor of no more M7, I am not sure I’ll ever offload my GS M7. It’s litterally my perfect car. I plan on keeping my M7 GS as a permanent member of my stable. I can always add a DTC C8 in the future. Have fun picking!

I’m not sure it matters if it is a good deal or not. What matters most is whether you would truly be happier with the 2017 model you are considering. If you really want a manual transmission then your decision has been made.

Did you consider buying a used manual Z06, you could probably find one in similar condition as yours (in red) and would greatly reduce the $20k+ hit you'd be taking for switching to a manual. All depends what you value your time at but there were alot of Z06s made and there are alot for sale now.

You will get a better deal end of Dec and end of Jan, some will say a really great deal but it is a chance... There is also something about a garage queen Corvette, shined up and pretty but almost no miles so used is a very good option..
It all comes down to what you want, when you want it and if the price is right

The deal is good enough you know what you want so stop wasting time and do the deal.

All right, straight up answer...keep the 16. I know the big difference is the manual, but you are money ahead by keeping the car you have with exactly the same performance as the 17.
I have a 16 and I recently looked at a 19. By the time it was said and done it would have cost me about $25K to buy basically the same car. Keep what you have!

I like manuals, my DD is a manual, but I love the A8 in my GS.
So I wouldn't trade up 20 grand to get a manual or trade DSOM for Torch Red.
But it's a decent deal so go with it if it's what you want it.

Having had labrum surgery, it took 6-9 mos to get back to 'normal'.
Might stick (no pun intended) with the A8 through summer and order what u want the way u want it for winter delivery from a forum vendor.

2017 TORCH RED Z06 3LZ VERT here you go! I vote yes for just having the TORCH RED PAINT! I also think the dealer should take 20% of and bring the price down to $82,000 and a low interest rate. Good luck and here is my 2017 Z06 3LZ TR VERT hope it helps sway you to the 2017!

BTW, I agree with Always Red Dave about the virtues of his color preference.

According to your profile you have a stock C6 so I am certain the Z06 will have no problem in winning a race. Most owners do not even race but like you love to say the auto is faster. Go up against an M7 driver who does race and uses the no lift shift feature you may be surprised.

I totally do not understand.
Why would you want to trade a 3 year old car for a 2 year old car and a lot of money? There are scant differences between model years and the amount of money is HUGE (YUGE).
I may be too sensitive to depreciation but this just doesn't make sense.
