Default These darn mag ride shocks leaking

Noticed front shock drivers side leaking, replaced the fronts today and while on the lift, both rear shocks are leaking. 2015 with 15xxx miles on them.

One of the reasons I got the "GMEPP" or "Chevrolet Protection Plan" - it covers the mag shocks.

I think this may be a first. Very rarely here, someone will report 1 leaking, but I've never heard of 4 at the same time.

Of course, std. shocks can leak too. There's nothing particularly different about MSRC shock construction except the type of fluid inside and the electromagnetic charge that alters their firmness.

I do, too, but it's probably a '14 or '15---just guessing.

There must be a difference in the standard shocks. Several reports of MR shocks leaking, but I have not seen any reports of regular shocks leaking, at least not with as few miles.

Could happen to any car. I don't want to hear " it's cause of the mag ride" or " shouldn't have gotten the mag ride" ANY type of shock can just go bad. This is normal wear and terror and YES while it sucks certain parts on certain cars can wear out faster than others that's just the luck of the draw. It seems like you know what your doing, did you replace them yourself??

I have never seen shocks start leaking on any vehicle with only 15000 miles on it. and all 4 of them, that is just silly talk.

Glad I did not get MR shocks on my Stingray.

Well now you have. I don't think the OP would lie and just replace them to replace them.

Not doubting it, I just find it unacceptable. I have had owned Corvettes with 100k miles and never had leaky shocks. One can only question the longevity and durability of the mag ride shocks at this point. Could be just a defective set, time will tell.

I understand what your saying. Like I said, luck of the draw. Let's hope this is an isolated case.

In the C6 section there have been several threads about leaking Mag shocks. People with experience have said that it's normal, or at least acceptable, for the shock rod to be slightly damp with fluid in normal use, and some slight residue on the body of the shock.

If that's correct, it will be interesting to learn what is acceptable and what requires replacement. I wonder if GM has published a bulletin about this, either for the C6 or C7.

^^^^ He speaks the truth re C6 and supposedly leaking MRC shocks being replaced, and more recently, some are considered "acceptable" with a bit of dampness and dirt accumulation.

Amen brother. I've never missed them on my Z51 either. I plan to keep my car in the family (either in my possession or one of my son's) a long time. Did NOT want the hassle down the road that appears to be inevitable with time (considering what C6 owners are also seeing). I've never found the ride unacceptable and the performance / handling is way more capable than my driving skills will ever allow me to exceed.

I know the shocks themselves are not super expensive ( Part Cost), but I can't imagine what a dealership will charge to change them out after they are out of warranty?? I suppose we will find out eventually...

How much do the mag ride shocks cost, parts only?

Lie? Lol. I wish. Look, I wrench on my own cars and unfortunately my 3 year warranty is up, but shocks are cheap and labor is free. Just didn’t like seeing the issue. I’m guessing a bad batch. I will take a better look at the blown one I took off that was leaking fluid really bad. I’m still glad I got the MRC shocks and I drive this modified car like I stole it so this is an annoyance more than anything .
