It's time for a new radar detector purchase

Honestly, Waze is the greatest radar detector I have ever used. It's dead accurate and has saved me countless times. Also it's free.

I have a max 360 on blendmount and use Waze. Pretty good combo

Just had my first LIDAR alert on the MAX360 this morning. Never saw LEO so it may have been the pickup truck I met running a jammer. Anyway, very distinct sound and all 4 arrows lit up red. Definitely gets your attention.

After reading this thread, I purchased the Uniden R3. It arrived on Thursday in time for my trip from Florida to Alabama. It saved me on at least three occasions.
i turned on the K band because I was traveling back roads in rural Georgia. It was very annoying because of the avoidance radar on cars. However, Sure enough Deputy sheriff was hiding in woods on desolate road shooting K band. Happened twice.
KA band was used mostly with occasionally a laser alert from trooper sitting on top of overpass shooting down on us.
Range was a mile at times leaving you wondering if it was a false alert. However, a mile or so down the road, you came across the officer.
Just got the mount and power tap in
Will install that soon.

Radar detectors work best when used with WAZE app. and a Rabbit*.
* How to use a Rabbit, Wait till a faster driver passes you. Fall in behind him. Repeat this process until you are driving the speed you prefer. Hang back as far as possible and still keep the rabbit's brake lights clearly visible. When the Cop turns on his radar to catch the rabbit your detector will go off and you can slow down and wave to the rabbit while he is getting pulled over. If rabbit turns off, repeat the process.
See the Rabbit, be one with the Rabbit, NEVER be the Rabbit

Uniden R3. Seems to work very well. I really like the database with the red light cameras plus the ability to set "user marks" for the mobile flashy cam trucks - which we have a lot of here in Scottsdale/PV area.
The only downside is that once you set a user mark, the only way to "clear" a mark is to delete all of the user marks at once.

Can anyone recommend a battery powered radar detector? One thing I HATE with traditional ones is cords running everywhere, or you have to take your A pillars or dash apart to run the wires, you got suction cups on the windows, you can't really transfer it to another car, so I have been looking up battery powered ones lately. I know the range is slightly less, but they still do the job. The one I have in my car now is like an Escort Solo S1, its super old and I think it's basically useless so was looking to upgrade maybe to the Escort Solo S4.

An escort guy here for many years. After much debate and research, it was the R3 for me.
It IS very sensitive, but like mentioned above, spend some time on the settings. The "K" band is the issue with Blind Spot Monitoring systems and you can tweak down the sensitivity a bit. You can also set it to mute below a certain speed. Both work very well to keep it less chatty.

george, can you show us a few more pics of your mounting system and cord run? I like the idea, because I live in the DMV, and regularly drive in the two-thirds of this area where they aren't looked upon kindly.
Not sure why you think it needs to be hidden; it's perfectly legal where you are.

I use this type of hook and loop, mount to car and detector
I hard wired it to the rear fuse box , fuse #37 is switched off when car is off

My Uniden R3 is a excellent detector. It detects every Acura that drives by! It even detects my own MDX every time I pass a semi and the blindspot monitoring bounces back. Tired of the falsing, may send it back. I have tried the recommended setups but no help.
