My 2015 had the Torque Converter replaced at 4500 miles! I have been leery since. Considering ordering a 2019, but obviously concerned about dealing with more A8 transmission woes. Are the new A8's fixed?

Mine still might be too early to tell but with 3300 miles on my 2018 I have no problems whatsoever with the transmission (or anything on the car for that matter, it has been 100% reliable thus far)

Pretty sure GM fixed the issues in the newer cars, at least the ones with converter problems. I wouldn't let that scare you away from an A8.

7,000 happy miles on my '18's A8. In manual/paddle mode 100%, no issues at all, other than getting used to the character of this auto compared to the ZF unit in my last car. OP, if you're concerned, you might try the Range unit discussed elsewhere, which defeats V4 mode, apparently the source of the problems in the auto, as I understand it. Just my 2¢...

So far our 2017 GS with close to 12K miles has not shown any TC problems.
We had the TC replaced in our previous 2015 Z51 Stingray because of hard shifts and shutter. Never really trusted the car after that and traded it in on our present GS. I do believe there are some improvements since the first year (2015) A8 came out based on new PN for the TC. But time will tell.

2019 Z06 my A8 is "spastic" will go for days no issues, then it will decide it's time to erratically shift or hard shift 1-2, spastic downshifts. Of course its not consistent enough to take to the dealer, as they would say....no problem found. Love the car and am just hoping it either fixes itself or breaks so I can get it fixed..

There is no certain, 100% answer for your question. How can anyone on this Forum predict whether your A8 will fail/ Or, not. As these A8s accumulate more miles, more will be at risk. An extended warranty will, at least, insure that if your A8 fails it won't be on your dime. Just keep extending.

Yes I believe so. It has engineering flaws/bugs that GM has not been able to 100% get rid of. However its much improved since 2015.

I also forgot to mention, I even let mine go into V4 mode at least half of the time if not more (gas is super expensive here in Ontario!!) I know there has been speculation that the more times AFM activates, the higher the chance of torque converter issues.

It's a crap shoot.

General Motors has a history of making their customers their product guinea pigs. As long as they are still making it good, you're going to be fine.

I bought a brand spanking new Cadillac, whose transmission went belly up with 30K miles on it. Cadillac made it good. Albeit had 36K or so miles on it. GM warranty was 12/12 at the time.

I have 8K on my '17 and haven't had any problems with the A8. I let it go to V4 any time it wants on the freeway. I have had occasional hard shifts 1-2 and even less frequently when it's downshifting to 1 when slowing for a light but nothing dramatic. Still, my plan is to buy the extended warranty before the factory warranty is up.

I was going to start a thread asking this very issue. It seems to me it's been a some time since we had a thread on a blown TC or an A8 issue. I know there was a change to the transmission fluid during the 2016 MY, also thought there was another improvement/change to the program as well. I wonder if those modifications was all it took to make the A8 reliable.

2019 Base Convertible,no issues at all so far,extremely quality shifts.

I would have no problem ordering a new C-7 with an A8. This Forum did a poll on cars with A8 problems and it appeared most of the cars with A8 problems were 2015 and 2016. I have a 2015 and my TC was replaced at 10K and my car has been flawless since. I now have 36K. I did purchase the GM Extended Warranty.
