A rude shock!
I replaced a chrome C7 wheel on my 14 vert. A little sticker on the inside (non chrome part of the wheel) reads "Made in China."

Corvettes are basically budget sports cars, providing us tremendous performance at a great price. Did you think they could do this with all domestic parts??

China is famous for adding lead to almost everything. Lead is mallable, that's why are rims are bending so easily.

I remember reading when the C7 first arrived that the F-150 and C7 were tied for the two most American/Made with USA parts of all cars made. 87.5%. Yes the rims are made in China and the manual transmission is made in Mexico.

An excerpt from the Economist a few years ago. It didn't mention car parts but I'm sure its high.
China produces a quarter of the worlds manufacturing output including 80% of the world’s air-conditioners, 70% of its mobile phones and 60% of its shoes.

I'm old enough to remember when we said the same things about Japanese products. And what about Korean products? China and the other East Asian countries have come a long way in making high quality products at a low cost.
I love my Taiwan manufactured polished aluminum wheels and they are "rotary forged".

In general, Taiwan's technology and manufacturing standards are much higher than China's though. Taiwan is actually one of the few that can produce a high quality computer processor besides the US.
That's why China's been trying to buy out Intel, Qualcomm and the chip making companies in Taiwan but the Taiwanese government stepped in and stopped it just as Trump did a couple times.
I guess you can make good products in China if it requires a lower tech, but it requires proper and consistent quality standards in the factory which seems to be what's lacking most of the time.
