Corvette C7 Gauge Cluster repair -Dealer broke items as they fixed
Ok so my 2014 C7 Z51 gets allot of use (and love too) and developed a bad spot on the gauge cluster, kinda a black circle on the lcd. It grew over time and I talked to my local GM dealer about replacing it. They originally said it would be $1300 but with core return it was about 900.
Now the new cluster looks great, the parts department said it was new and I can believe it. Now where this story goes bad is the GM dealer messed some things up too.
1. a piece of dash carbon fiber its popped up, it looks like they tried to fix it with some sticky tar stuff but it didnt hold
2. the leather shifter boot has big rips in it.
3. the cup holder cover doesn't sit right - big 1/4 in gap.
They said the plastic was brittle and I can tell they broke some tabs as there was little plastic bits on the seats and dash. How responsible are they for damage to brittle 2014 old plastic?

Man, that's frustrating...
Nothing I hate more that paying big $ to have something "professionally" done (home or car) and then I have to go around behind the "professionals" and clean up/fix what they broke. And of course, they ALL have excuses as to why it isn't their fault...

I agree. It may have been better for them to just say they can't take the job. They scheduled an appointment to fix the 3 things but Its a hassle to take car back to fix things they broke but I'm happy they are willing to fix the issues.

IF the plastic parts were indeed brittle and IF they took all reasonable care when working on the car and the parts just broke, I couldn’t see holding them responsible for replacing the parts. Of course, not having seen them doing the work or knowing the condition of the parts beforehand, those are some big IFs.
The rips in the leather shift boot I would certainly press for them to replace that under their cost. They should also adjust the cup holder cover as I would suppose that it fit properly prior to the repair work.
As to the carbon fiber part, again it would be similar to the other plastic parts.
I will say that when I had the infotainment screen replaced in my ‘14, the bezel around my A6 shifter cracked when the tech attempted to remove it. I probably would have never known that it happened, at least at that time, as it would have taken a really keen eye to see it. To the tech’s and dealer’s credit, they disclosed the damage and replaced the part at no cost to me.
Those are just my thoughts and others may disagree. But some things that happen are beyond the control of the repairing facility if they took reasonable care with the car.
