C7 Rated Much Worse For Reliabiltity Than C6 and C5
I was looking at the Consumer Reports Reliability ratings for the C7 vs. the C6 and C5, and the results are startling. Before everyone groans about it being Consumer Reports, the results are based on actual users, not their editorial staff. The C5 had a Very Poor reliability rating in 2000 (steering wheel lock, active handling faults, piston slap, leaking batteries?), but was quite reliable near the end of the run. The C6 was even more reliable in the early years than the C7, and went years with their top reliability ratings after that. Meanwhile the C7 started off with a Very Poor rating, and in five years has not improved at all. Below are the overall reliability verdicts.
2000 C5 = Very Poor
2001 C5 = not available
2002 C5 = Average
2003 C5 = Excellent
2004 C5 = Excellent
2005 C6 = Good
2006 C6 = Good
2007 C6 = Average
2008 C6 = Excellent
2009 C6 = Excellent
2010 C6 = not available
2011 C6 = Excellent
2012 C6 = Excellent

I checked some other Chevy models. The Camaro reliability has sunk like a rock down to Very Poor with the 6th Gen. The Cruze is in the toilet. The current generation Malibu is going down. The Impala is up at least. My gut instinct is GM is not focusing on quality like they used to. GM has some work to do.

I think that the only ones that respond to these surveys are those who have problems. The vast majority of us C7 owners are too busy driving and enjoying them to bother with CR let alone respond to some survey. I know I didn’t respond to any survey and I couldn’t be any happier with my Little Blue Vette illustrated below...

That doesn't explain why the C6 and C5 were rated Excellent. Those were worth driving, too.
Those don't reflect my experience. I had my 1998 for 10 years and had zero issues. I had my 2007 for 10 years with zero issues. I've had my 2017 for a little over a year with zero issues as well. I just hope I haven't jinxed it with this reply.
In terms of writing about cars, I remember a joke in probably Car & Driver or maybe Motor Trend where the background shows some bearded, bespectacled guys in white lab coats with clipboards making notations as cars are being driven off a cliff. One guy in the foreground says to the other, "Oh, that's just Consumer Reports testing cars again."
In terms if their statistical analyses, all their figures come from a survey they conduct among Consumer Reports subscribers only. If you don't subscribe as a paying member, you do not participate in the survey. Now I'm not going to make any disparaging remarks about Consumer Reports subscribers, but it is obviously a skewed sample and unlikely to be valid across the board for all Vette owners. The universe of Vette owners who are also Consumer Reports subscribers has got to be on the small side, and I question the statistical validity of their reporting. If I remember correctly, CR weights its ratings by year. (That is, the number of reported flaws to earn a particular rating is lower in more recent years.) Thus, you should take year to year rating comparisons with a grain of salt.
Also, CR does not publish its full methodology or the sample sizes or other data on which it bases its ratings. In the world of research, this would get its ratings rejected by any reputable scientific journal.
However, note that C7 is at or near the top of CR owner satisfaction ratings.

After rading all the DIFFERENT problems reported here that should be a surprise !!!
i didn't read CR to buy my vette, don't care what they report about it now. When i want a bulletproof car or truck, lifeless, cold, practical and reliable, i buy toyota. And when my wife wants mercedes benz, she gets mercedes benz. Between the forceps and the stone, there is Corvette. And at least one owner tried to take it with him. how many CR best buy owners are that passionate about their check rated humdrum mobiles?
