HSA (Hill Start Assist)
Is HSA standard on all M7 transmission. Been driving for around the past week and when I'm doing a hill start, I've noticed that I didn't roll back. Checked my tires to see if I had a flat or maybe I was just stopped in a pothole in the road. Then it was just happening way too often. Pulled out the owners manual and mentions that some vehicles may have HSA.
Just another reason I enjoy this car more now. No more worrying about rolling back into another car, for 2 seconds at least.

I still dislike mine. The brakes really grab on mine. I get the same grab when using the parking brake. Others have posted they never manually disengage the parking brake, they just drive off and it releases.

Took a bit to get used to it but now that I am I think it is a great feature.

Have learned to accept It! My 2014 electric parking brake never did release consistently. In fact would say 80% of the time it did not so I stopped expecting it to work! Tried once when backing out of the garage with the Grand Sport and it did not release so I stopped trying with it as well.
When taking off from a hill, the electric brake will release in about 2 seconds after removing your foot from the foot brake. So unlike my ~60 years of driving only standard shifts as my DD I relax and don’t try my usual quickly engaging the clutch and using throttle to avoid rolling back. I relax (not easy with my temperament) and let the 1 1/2 to 2 seconds pass before engaging the clutch and using the throttle! Works fine! Particularly useful with AHs who stop within inches of my bumper.

The C7 has so few compared to my computer software it’s a none issue for me.
Usually it’s Microsoft “stuff” but today had to devise one for Dreamweaver, my website software!
Still amazed how folks accept software glitches, need to reboot etc etc. Proof they do is Bill Gates wealth! Can’t imagine producing a product that required workarounds for errors and still being in business, let along becaming the richest man in the World!

In my experience HSA does not work at all when the hill has a mild incline. You can't depend on it. I use the electric brake when necessary, but I really prefer the old way of doing things with the emergency brake on a crank in the middle between the two seats. That gives you a lot more control. You can't finesse the e-brake like you can a manual brake. It's either on or off. Thumbs down on both HSA and the e-brake.

I have no need for the HSA, but the few times I've purposely tested it on both my '14 and '18, it has held and smoothly released perfectly each time with very little throttle input.

Yes I prefer the manual parking brake in the center console as well. But so far no complaints with the HSA.
And the incline of the hill needs to be greater than 5% in order for it to work. So yes, if your on a mild incline, you'll left wondering if it's engaged or not.

Melting Slicks
Put the car in gear, clutch all the way in and hit the brake as you roll to a stop. As you begin to let off the clutch and accelerate the HSA will disengage. Somewhat temperamental. I could live without out it.

I can take HSA or leave it. Does not matter to me but mine is smooth as butter.
For the op "I opened the manual" and found HSA. Always funny to see people buy a car and not look at the manual until they have problems or questions but good for the op for looking in the manual. Continue reading the rest of the manual, you will find lots of informative info in there which might save you time and embarrassment down the road. Its a great car for sure!

HSA is a mild annoyance for me.
The auto-disengage of the parking brake has happens to me 5-6 times because I forgot to do it manually.
I always need to remember when I get in the car to hit the paddle (turn on rev match), the cooled seat button (because I like a cold butt) and the parking brake button. Sometimes in my haste to get places I forget the last one...
