Default Over 4000 rpm briefly with less than 500 miles

Not sure if I am just being paranoid or not but I have about 350 miles on my car and had to punch it a little getting on the highway. I looked quickly at the tach and noticed that it went close to 5000 rpm briefly. Mind you the feeling was glorious and the engine sounded amazing but it made me very nervous since I am still in the break in period. So far the transmission (A8) has always shifted well short of the 4000 rpm mark that is recommended but in this case I guess it thought i needed more . This is likely a silly question since I am pretty sure it will be fine but has anyone else done this within the 500 mile period and either had or not had issues later on? Basically anything to worry about? Anything I should just have the dealer double check when I do the first oil change?

Thank you in advance

Hey Demnos, no worries! These LT1s/LT4s are really tough - you have nothing to be concerned about. Some forum members break their new C7s in by immediately running them hard. I break my new engines in 'pretty carefully' too. Prepare yourself for some cf members who will have a little fun with your question, but I get it - you just want to be certain that you break your car in according to the manual because that makes you feel more confident in protecting your new ride. Relax, and enjoy your beautiful C7!

One of the steps for the LT4 crate engine breakin procedure is:

"Run five or six medium throttle (50%) accelerations to about 4000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear."

So it's actually a good idea. You should do it four more times, actually. And the next step after that, before the oil change, is:

"Run two or three hard throttle (WOT 100%) accelerations to about 4000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear."

Default 500 mile rev limit

I am pretty sure my 2017 Z06 had a 4500 rpm rev limit per the computer. I hit it a couple of times. After 500 miles it goes to 6500. Chances of you hurting something in the first 500 miles would be zero if your car is the same.

Even without that I doubt hitting 6500 briefly would be an issue.

I think they put it there because they wanted Z06 newbies to get a little used to their car before they unleashed it fully. But that is just a conspiracy theory.

StreetSpeed717 was doing doughnuts in his 2 day old 2019 ZR1. I doubt going over the break-in max will do any damage.

Thats just on the display. The engine will still rev on out. I didn't totally abide by my 500 mile breakin and never had any issues. Granted i only did 2-3 full throttles during that time frame. So you dont have anything to worry about. Modern engines are pretty close tolerances anyway from day one.

I'm not sure I would use StreetSpeed717 as an authority on anything. He obviously doesn't care about warranties.

Actually, a buddy of mine used to test/break-in brand new engines at The Trenton Engine Assembly Plant for Fiat/Chrysler. All of their engines are already tested and broken in at the factory, including fresh oil! I did not know this! I doubt that you did ANY damage at all!

Not only that, but in the event that something does break, he'd have no problem paying for it; hence his total disregard for the restrictions of any warranty.

It's all good....I'm happy for him.

I figured I might be opening myself up to some good natured ribbing but I appreciate the sanity check from everyone. Sometimes my paranoia gets the better of me but it is nice to know that she should be fine.

WTF does this kid do for a living ????

OP you're paranoid like I was with my first Vette. It's fine ..! Think about it this way. What's the difference between 499 miles or 501.. nothing... it's just a guide line. I hammered mine at 500 miles exactly !!
