Why Do C7 Coupes Out Sell Verts By Big Margin?

Yah, in 1962. And they would inflate and be noisy on the highway. And you couldn't go through car washes.
I have two modern convertibles (2003, 2015) and two older (1969, 1969). A modern convertible is no worse than a coupe: In fact, with the C7Z I think the convertible is actually the -better- car in most ways except the huge blind spot with the top up.
I'd love to have a coupe as a dedicated track car, but would never own a coupe as a primary Corvette. Unless you're racing or planning to crash, I don't see why you would.
From the outside, though, the 3/4 back tail view of the coupe is a great view, and you don't get it on the convertible. But you get the waterfall on the convertible, so it works out.

As far as practicality is concerned, convertibles are significantly quieter inside, do not leak, and are cooler because the top is better insulated, and you don't have the big glass aquarium window to super-heat the interior.

Going for a fun ride in my vert with the top up just is not the same as when I put the top down and a coupe with the top off does not give the same experience as a vert.
For me toy=vert.

It's a matter of preference between the coupe and vert.
I personally don't drive with the roof off too much on my coupe. Sometimes it's just too hot to be driving around without the air conditioning. And if we are driving a lot of highway speeds, it's just not as pleasant compared to a leisure drive through the country, mountains or coastline.

But yes, that's the only time I actually put my top up, is if it's too hot out and I'm on the freeway. Pretty rare though, I think I've done it 3 times. And remember, it's 20 seconds and you can do it while moving.

Not if you want see to see out the rear window. Sure you can pile stuff up to the top of cargo area roof in the coupe, then hope you don't have to stop quickly. With the top up and partition down in the convertible, you can fit about the same amount of luggage. That's another myth that comes from folks who have no convertible experience.

Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, when I picture a Corvette, I picture a targa coupe. When it was time to buy, I didn’t even think about a convertible. I owned a vert ASC McLaren Mustang for many years. The thing rattled, the top got sun beat, and it was an overall pain to clean. I replaced the top with quality Haartz cloth twice due to wear. I had someone slash it twice more. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
On top of that that it’s so dang hot here in El Paso that I got no joy out of it. I never really put the top down. The vert Vettes are beautiful and I’m sure they are a blast to drive. But in all honesty, I like the lines of the coupe more and the targa is a perfect compromise for me. I may never own another vert again, or I may. It all depends on the purpose of my car and what I’m obsessing over when it’s time to buy. 😂

This is why everybody was pushing me to get a vert!! But I needed the increased storage of the coupe. It was hard to break the rule but they eventually came to terms with it.
My next vette will be a vert for sure, 2LT GS with ths spice red package. Too much work to retrofit that in. Oh... and it will be an M7. I’ll just have to have a 2nd car when I need to carry things.

Why would you turn off the air conditioning? This is America! We drive with the top down and AC on MAX. At least I do.

Because hatchbacks are more popular. Simple as that. Get what you want.

Buy what you like. There's nothing to worry about. The vast majority of cars of any brand, style, etc. aren't convertibles. Vettes aren't the exception. Personally, I think the coupe looks better.

Poster thought it should be Blue. Unrelated to Vettes, Blue is not a color I like! We're all different!

Spinkick,
Fabric top care is a non-issue, and I spend less time cleaning the fabric top than I do my hardtop vehicles. With a simple hose-off and air dry when it's dirty, it will last longer than most people would have any desire to keep the car. Of course, there are those OC folks who feel they have to water-proof it every year or so, and/or constantly use cleaning products. That's completely unnecessary, and often they're doing more harm than good by removing the fabric manufacturer applied protective coating.
It's amazing how many myths folks who don't have any convertible experience come up with. Anticipating the next disaster scenario someone will mention eventually, it's much quicker and easier to smash a side window than it is to cut into the top to break in.
I'm pretty sure that those who say the targa is a great compromise are people who almost never take it on or off. Anyone who frequently removes it usually ceases that behavior relatively quickly. I did have a C6 coupe and absolutely hated the targa top. The buffet at any speed above 50 was intolerable. It stayed on all the time eventually, but the tops on my convertibles are up and down sometimes 3-4 times on the same commute/errand. Too much sun, press the button while in motion, and you're in the shade, and when you hit that shady country road, press a button while in motion, top is down. That's priceless!

We spend a lot of time on this forum - M7 vs A8, Z06 vs Z07, Conv vs Coupe, and so on - debating which is the "right" Corvette, as if there's an answer.
Along the way there are two downsides:
- People get their feelings hurt
- Not everyone buys the "right" car (Scientifically proven to be the Torch Red 3LZ A8 Convertible)
- Dave

I really don't care what people like and don't like, because I'm the only one who matters, but I do have a hard time with incorrect info being slung around carelessly based upon pure ignorance.
