You use what you have! All 5 of my Vette Coupes have been my DD.
Recall when we were having our current house built I did some of the minor work, installing a wired alarm system and speakers in a number of rooms before the Sheetrock was installed. Also semifinished the area above the 3 car garage. Needed 8 foot 2x4’s and the wife’s XJ6 was of no use so put those in my ‘93 Vette with blankets covering the back bumper, console and dash. Tied the hatch down with a bungee cord and all was fine!
Recently had to go into town (17 miles) and buy a large lockable mailbox and post for the contractor rebuilding our dam. Required by DEHC to store the approved plans and engineering compaction reports etc. If they arrive unannounced and those documents are not on the job site for inspection they shut the work effort down!
Wife was using her SUV so measured and could fit a 5 1/2 foot post in the Grand Sport with a towel over the console and hatched closed. Had Lowes cut the post to 5 1/2 feet and delivered it and the box to the contractor! When I brought them to him said delivery was by my Grand Sport Pickup!

Looks like it worked. Don’t think I would try that though.

I've done that. But circa 1997. No flat screens back then. Stuck in the back of my C5 and drove home with the hatch up.

I don't think he should be driving on the highway like that but otherwise there's no real harm in it. He put a blanket down.
