Default M7: Neutral Or In Gear At Stop

While sitting at a stoplight, are you in neutral, or in first gear with the clutch depressed?

Using neutral reduces wear on the throw out bearing, clutch and pilot bushing.

For me it's a timing game per say..mostly in neutral, (heard it's not good for the tranny/clutch to always have clutch engaged at all times even in slowww traffic), but then it turns into a timing game of when will the light turn green,so I can have vette in gear and ready to role forward...if no one ahead of me at light I will stop short at the light, get slow role happening.

Always neutral as it wears out your clutch to sit with it depressed for extended periods.

Putting it in neutral at a stop is stick shift basics to avoid wear on the clutch.

I put my manual non-Vette in neutral at stop lights for no other reasons than I'm lazy, and wanna save my leg leg the trouble.

I always just push in the clutch. Never had a clutch issue.

I do this as well (depress brake while in neutral). Especially now with so many folks distracted with phones.

Clutch out, shift lever in neutral, saves wear on components. Many years dealing with heavy trucks, component manufacturers and seminars related to such issues has proven to me that over a long period of time holding the clutch in is not a good thing to do.

Always in neutral clutch out, every stop light for the last 4 Corvettes about 300,000 miles total on them and never had a clutch problem. But on the other hand the first 4 got about the same mileage but always in gear and the clutch in, had to replace 1 clutch but I am pretty sure that was because of abuse. and all those were in the 60's and one 70.

Should be in neutral at stoplight to reduce the wear on the throw out bearing. That is the only part of the clutch system that is affected.

Neutral. Only push the pedal when necessary. Why would you want that release bearing spinning for no reason?

This has been a no-brainer on manuals for decades. Gear shift in neutral, clutch out, and foot off clutch pedal. Replacing a throw-out bearing is a very expensive endeavor, and like all bearings, the less it spins, the longer it will last.

I go with neutral till the light is about to change. If you get tapped from behind while in gear, your foot slips off the clutch and you launch into the guy in front. You may then be the one at fault for hitting the guy in front.
