Default Buying used without warranty?

Hi all! For a while now, I've been set on making my first car a CPO BMW Z4. But growing up, I have always wanted a Corvette. Problem is if I want all the bells and whistles I would like, I'd need to shell out like 65k. Most annoying thing is having to get the 3lt just to get the red interior I would want. Well I found a used 2014 3lt stingray nearme thats just what I'm looking for.

Question is, is it worth getting a Corvette if it doesn't have warranty, and how much annual costs would I be looking at? Also it's 49k on a 66k MSRP car (according to your guys Vin decoder) so not sure how much of a deal that is. Oh and it has 30k miles. Thanks!!

The 2014's have proven to be very reliable. If the car has been taken care of you should be fine. The 2014 has IIRC a 5 yr/100K powertrain warranty which is still good on the one you're looking to buy. If I'm wrong I know it has at least a 5/60 powertrain warranty. If you want the best info. about an extended warranty give these folks a call. Many here have bought extended warranties from them. Great customer service, and prices much better than you can get anywhere on a genuine GM warranty.

pass on that one, with that mileage should be around 38k (sorry for the confusion, I meant 38,000 Dollars)

here is cargurus with 553 2014 stingrays nationwide starting at 35k

before you buy get Dennis the VIN number and see what an extended warranty would be

If you can't get it certified, get an extended warranty for your peace of mind.

Correct on the 2014's coming with transferable 5/100 powertrain coverage. Also agreed on the proven reliability of 2014's; 40k miles and going strong here!

Hm I'd love to know why it having 8k less miles is a bad thing? I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff. Also I checked out some of those cars, but alot are out of state for me. Idk what your guys opinion on out of state purchases are.

He is saying the price should be $38K for the miles that the car has. Pass on this one if owner is not willing to budge/ give it away for $38-40K, there are many great deals to be had on low mile cars

It's obviously hard to read into the future but my experience with used Corvettes (at least other than my C4) has been good. I had my C5 for 9 years and only spent $2000 in repairs. I had my C6 for 4.5 years and only spent $2500 in repairs. So even without having a warranty on either of those cars, the cost of ownership was very reasonable, almost Honda-like! I hope my C7 is going to be just as reliable, as I did not buy the extended warranty (but in Canada the powertrain warranty is 5 years or 100,000 miles, so I'm covered for the two costliest repairs for a long time at least)

Annual Costs - 1 oil and filter change. That's about it. YMMV may vary on tires and brake pads, some use them up in a weekend at the track.

If it is not at a chevy dealer, ask the selling dealer if he will let you take it to a chevy dealer to have an inspection. while there, ask if there are any GM impediments to the car continuing to have the 5yr/100k powertrain warranty. Ask if the car is covered by the leaky fuel tank 10yr/120k warranty.

With a clean bill of health from the inspection, the knowledge that GM is continuing to honor all exisiting warranties on this particular car, go have fun with it.

Oh, you know, you are paying the highest (summer months) Corvette tax on it? right? You understand it is now a 5 model year old car with not much discount, right?

And you know you can get a 2019 1lt corvette with either transmission for about the same money $49k, right now, and older brand new models 2017 and 2018 still new on the dealers lot for the same money or less with more options? You know a new 2017, 2018 or 2019 corvette will have zero (free) maintenance costs for the next two years starting date of delivery, correct? and a 3/36k bumper to bumper warranty?

fall in love with a corvette for sure, just make sure you have met all her younger sisters and their friends with benefits before you propose.

Buying out-of-state can be pretty stress-free on a new car from a CF dealer. But doing so on a used car from either a dealer or private party can have some complications. The most obvious is the car's condition if you don't see it personally. Then you have to ensure proper financing and title transfer. If all goes well you still have the cost of shipping it or driving it back.

It can certainly be done but just be aware of the potential complications.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do. Even with a few minor headaches the C7 will make you forget about them quickly enough once you get it.

The only negative I see, is the price. Somewhere in the mid to upper $30's would be good.
I would also consider having the car inspected and getting the GMVS report.
Dennis Fichtner would also be a good source for extended warranty, if the current drivetrain isn't transferable.
You may have found a winner.

Wow mid to upper 30s? I probably won't do this then. It's hard to find cheap Corvettes with red interior though..
Here's the VIN if anyone wants to give a more specific feedback on the price lol - 1G1YM3D79E5130023. I misspoke, it's MSRP isn't 66k but 62k! Hmm doesn't seem like a good deal.

I have a similar '14 3LT convert with close miles. I was at a car show in January and happened to be talking to a used car buyer in town for the auctions. He had the software on his phone and in seconds said mine was $38K and his stores would retail it for $45,000....now that was 6 months ago....it's only worth less now.

I don't understand the fixation with warranties. Just keep a reserve of $5k-$10k and you'll be able to cover pretty much anything that will go wrong. Worst case scenario you might need to come up with a couple extra thousand. Save the $25k over buying new, and keep some of it in the bank/treasury bills.

Oh man that's exactly what I'm looking for too. I think the big thing is this is a 3lt and a convertible (which adds like 5k alone), both of which I'm not sure I need. where did you find that deal?

Also question for all - coupe or convertible? Not a fan of soft top but a convertible is a convertible. I know you can take off the top of a coupe, but that brings it's own problems.

Will do but sounds like I'd have to drop it like 8k and I have my doubts of him doing that.
