The GS/Z51 has quicker acceleration because of the lower gearing vs the base Stingray. Also the GS/Z51 weighs more than the base stingray. The Z51/GS's eLSD alone adds 44 pounds of the Grand Sport's 130 pound increase..

I’m going back and forth on this myself. I absolutely love the looks of the GS, but for me I feel a Z51 might be a little more playful. Less grip from the narrower tires would actually make me work a little harder when pushing the car. Let me slide it around a bit, because at heart I’m still a child! I’m only going for lap times when I’m ok writing off the car I’m driving and have a HANS device attached to my helmet.

Also the annual tire bill will be a bit less.

it's not that old LOL

The only people who are gonna know the difference between a Stingray and a GS are a bunch of dudes anyways. I could care less what dudes think

Girls don't know nor care 90% of the people won't even know the difference unless they are side by side. I know this from lots of 1st hand accounts. You have to get a C7 in black (no matter which trim/model), it's scientifically proven to attract more females to you than any other color.

Z51 has so many pluses if you track the car. Huge selection of brake pads and tires...and much more reasonably priced. The Z51 is more playful on the track and I believe it is more fun. I've never been passed by a GS or Z06 for that matter.

If you don't track the car and the looks of the GS do it for you so much that you cant see yourself driving the Z51...get the GS.

Right now about 12.5% for 2019's Grand Sports at MacMulkin. Like $8-9k on a 1LT coupe M7. A new Z06 1LZ is gonna run about $72k to 74k for an M7 coupe depending where you go (Kerbeck or MacMulkin). So the delta is about $12k-14k right now.

I just traded my 17 Z51 Stingray in on a 19 Grand Sport 2LT. For me the GS is the way to go. It just feels better all around. The car feels more engaged with the road and the handling and braking are much improved. with my stingray the back end floated a bit, even in track mode, and the suspension just felt softer in general. The GS is a better ride for me anyway, my 2cents.

Just looked at Kerbeck the largest Vette dealer in the Country to check their inventory of over 200 cars in stock or on order. Lots of base coupes and verts, lots of Grand Sports and zero Z51's. It's not what they "like" it's what folks are buying!

The logic of buying a Base C7 versus a GS based on 1) better ride 2) no extra complications, i.e. dry sump, extra coolers, eLSD, no need to change brake pads to ceramic on day 1, etc etc makes a lot of sense! But few reasons to buy a Z51 that is only ~$3000 less than a Grand Sport when adding MRC with all the same GS and Z06 complications IMO. It's fine if living "Up North" where you'll drive in cold weather and need winter or all-season tires. They are not only hard to get for the GS/Z06, the extra width makes them worse in light snow and rain.

The justification for those that have one is just that, IMO! When I bought my 2014 Z51 was a bit disappointed that with more hp and more important, the. extra low end torque with the LT1 variable came timing, it had the same width tires as my prior C6 Z51. Even the GS is traction limited BUT not as bad as my Z51!

The tire width on my 2014 Z51 was less than the wife's SUV! My Street Rod would laugh when I pulled into the garage. Now it only chuckles!
That's my favorite lateral high "g" turn I take every time I drive. It's at the end of my street. Don't need to go fast to appreciate the extra tire width. Same with modest acceleration from a stop.

It depends which wide body kit you get. If it is the one that mimics the C7.R with the wide front end and even wider rear fenders, you cannot buy that from the factory. If it is just a copy of the GS probably not worth doing.
