It was nice that you were told about the damage to your car. All to easy for someone to do that damage and them to say ooops and drive off.

And people do funny things. I had a Firebird with a proximity alarm on it. It was a very good looking car. I went to a shopping center and when I went to park the car I parked it way in the back of the lot with NOTHING around me. I had hardly walked out of the lot into the shopping center when I heard my proximity alarm go off. I couldn't imagine why it went off and turned to look back at my car. I see a lady getting out of her car which she had just parked next to my car and she had set off the alarm by opening her door so close to my car. She looked at my car and shrugged her shoulders and kept heading into the center like I did. I started to ask her why she had to park right next to my car with all the empty spaces but figured she could park anywhere she wanted and didn't really think I would get a sensible answer out of her so I too shrugged my shoulders and kept going.

A good looking car seems to attract people who want to look and end up running into the car. Often you go where you are looking.

to him for admitting he damaged your car. Hope you get it fixed soon and the shop does a great job.

I would make this JOKER pay me cash to get this fixed. An Insurance claim will bring a Carfax report. That will diminish your resale. Too many unhit Vettes are available,

Not necessarily true.

The same thing happened in a parking lot to my '09 Z06. Small puncture hole, but in the front bumper. Very little visible damage (just the hitch hole), but the hitch hit and damaged the frame and drove the car up over the curb I was parked against. Over $10,000 damage, and no Carfax hit.

There is no requirement to report to Carfax, so it may or may not show up.

Here is a pic of what is directly under that panel on the C7. The panel is relatively easy to take off to determine if there is damage underneath. If none shows up underneath, it's easy to replace and call it a day.

Good luck with the car.

On replay, you have a GREAT attitude. I might not... scratch that...would like to imitate that response of yours.
Thanks much appreciated. My motto is don’t sweat the small stuff. Lots of people have to deal with things much harder than most of us here.

We discussed this but with a rental and all that, I didn’t want to rake him over the coals. We work together and he has a wife and couple kiddos, I’m single, no kids. It’s just a car, a nice one, but in the end I’m not gonna sweat a few thousand bucks when it comes time to trade it in. Hope to keep this one a few years and put plenty of miles on it. Get my $$ worth.

I’ll post pictures after she is all fixed up. I’ve taken a couple of my Vettes to the body shop and they do great work. The owner is a Vette guy himself along with one of the employees, great shop.

Thanks for the pic. The only thing I’m a bit concerned about is that it shifted the alignment of where the back panel wraps around and meets the left rear quarter. It isn’t much but it shifted it a bit, so hopefully that is an easy fix. We shall see.

What's sad is that you have to break it down and explain. Where is the sense of humor on this forum? I still need a closer picture...can't really tell.

OP, save your money and put a big bumper sticker on it. I would suggest something like "This car insured by Smith & Wesson"

It looks like the panel is toast.
I had mine banged in to and the dealer quoted me $1,100 to replace it.
The part itself is listed at around $700.

My theory is we humans have a herding mentality left over from our millions of years of evolution.

Glad to hear you're mentally stable.

Most CF posts that start this way devolve quickly into revenge fantasies. You know, burning down the shop that did it, suing the survivors, all that nonsense.

The whole notion of "I will take it to the body shop where they will repair this black area" and getting over it quickly probably adds years to your lifespan.

Ouch, that's gotta hurt, but I'm sure you are happy to know you have honest co-workers. It should be an easy fix.
