I think that's a good general rule, however the C7 market has become more complex than that as of late as a result of over production thus inventory overages thus GM incentives and of of course non-typical new model releases etc.

Other 2017 leftover models had similar but not exactly 20% discounts unilaterally. Next you look for dealers putting their skin in the game, and blanket GM multiple incentive offers, and IVC's (dealer held Individual Vehicle Coupons - $500 price reductions per coupon for the dealer to use on any car they wish to assign it to, maximum 8 IVC's per car).

No:

GS prices are hot, hot hot. I looked from June 2016 until March 2018 and ended up with a Z51, because the desirable GS's sell quickly, even less desirable GS 1LT models go faster than Z06's and Stingrays. So the hottest deals are on the cars still sitting on the lot as the discount season progresses. Both my brother and I ended up buying in March 2018. he saved $25K off a loaded 2017 Z06 and I saved $15k off a "stripper" 2017 Z51 1lt. But I never saw a GS i liked that I coulda gotten at the price I wanted to pay. They sold too quick to drop too far in the monthly deeper discount reductions. YMMV

I purchased my new 2009 Z06 on July 28, 2008, one month after the 2009 model year's went into production(June 2008). I got 14% off MSRP. Latest model year and in the middle of the summer driving season. Was not a left over 2008 model nor was I buying in January nor was I living in Minot, North Dakota.

Yes, but, you were buying a "last years" model if the new car was already building and shipping. This is when the manufacturer is going to start with rebates to the dealers so as to clear room for the now being produced cars.

It's really hard to determine if the prices go down in winter or do the prices go down because the cars just became 1 model year older. IMHO, now is a great time to buy. Springtime is over so the hot sports car sales season is over. But there's still plenty of summer left to enjoy your car. You can wait until winter and try to buy a leftover, but remember, the 2019 Corvettes are already out there, soooo.... I'd buy now and let your friend drool over your new Corvette.

NO, NO, NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I clearly stated that I bought a 2009 model one month after the 2009 models went into production. I bought in July 2008, and my 2009 Z06 was built in June 2008. I was not buying "last year's" 2008 model at a close out price, but a brand new 2009 model with less than 2,000 of the 2009's having been built when I drove mine home.

Here is my personal experience with 3 cars already, 1 Vette, but the rest were all the same. The local dealer will absolutely try to make as much money on EACH and EVERY car on the lot. If it is a small dealer they won't lower the price or offer you a deal they will try to get as much as they can, particularly, a Vette.
Here is where things get better, google the list of DEALERS that sell the most amount of corvettes. find the TOP 50 Corvette dealers. Then contact the top one closest to you. For example, here is the new Corvettes sold in 2017, Guess who was able to offer me a GREAT deal on the exact vehicle that I wanted, (Long beach red, with the chrome packages, in 2LT, and black interiors) BTW that combination is VERY hard to find, but it is exactly what I wanted. Before I know if I was flying on a one way ticket to Manchester, NH to buy my car. In fact you can actually call the dealer and they WILL pick you up at the airport, you just give them a check, and off you go with the car after 2 hours of them explaining the ins and outs. THIS saved me THOUSANDS! ON EVERY CAR I have bought. I am talking about at least 3-10k by going to the HIGH volume dealer.

So if you want a good deal, you don't need to wait until the winter time, just go to the high volume dealers, they are more likely to have in stock exactly the car you want, and offer you a great deal. In my case MacMulkin worked like a champ!
Below is the top 5 Vette dealers from 2017. Google the list, and enjoy!
1. KERBECKATLANTIC CITY NJ - 950
2. MAC MULKIN CHEVROLETNASHUA NH - 685
3. LES STANFORD CHEVROLETDEARBORN MI - 416
4.CRISWELL CHEVROLET, INC.GAITHERSBURG MD - 354
5. BOMNIN CHEVROLET DADELANDMIAMI FL - 271

Thank you!

But, to be honest, I bought it using a legit employee discount. That said, a dealer does not have to sell a car, if they don't want to, at the employee price. It's up to the individual dealer to honor an employee discount. My dealer could have said no to the employee discount and said "we will sell you the car at a 7% discount though". Also GM limits the amount of the DOC Fee to $75 that a dealer can charge when selling a car with an employee discount,

I posted this shortly after purchasing my car in Dec. of 2017. I started my search in Nov of 2016. I was not ready to buy until around June / July of 2017 but this is the process I used to get the best deal possible.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ect-storm.html

In terms of GrandSports the BEST price I saw last year was a black 1LT, M7 at Kerbeck for 53K.
and
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...w-54616-a.html

It was not uncommon to find dealers offering them for 56K.

Happy hunting.

I bought Jan 31 2017 and had a GREAT deal on a used car.. the last day of the month after christmas and they need to sell cars.. dealership dropped 10,000 of used price down to 42,000 for a 2014, 3LT with 5000 miles...

They had 4 brand new corvettes in the showroom and did not have any discounts on them, I think they still have 2 of them...

Bought a new 2018 2lt gs in march for 55.5k, Saw the deep discounts on some z06's and have been offered more than what I paid by 3 dealers on the gs. 56, 57.5, 59 guess I got a killer deal

Telling us what you paid for the car doesn't tell us much if you don't tell us either the MSRP or the amount of discount you received.

And discounts don't mean nothing if you traded a vehicle. The salesman will short you on your trade-in value to boost your new vehicle discount to make you believe you are getting a great deal. If I trade, it is done as a separate transaction. I don't even tell them I have a trade until we have finished negotiating the price on the new vehicle.

It's all market based, but if you live in, or are close to a larger metropolitan area, at this point in the C7 lifecycle, you should have no problem getting 10% off MSRP. I got 8% off 2 years ago in June. But, you have to find a dealer that wants to move volume and not focused on profit margin only. The dealers in my area (Sacramento) don't get very many Corvette allocations, so in their mind, why sell it for less if it will eventually sell @ full price, and I get it. I drove 6 hours to SoCal, and saved 6K. When I was trying to negotiate up here, the guy didn't think driving 12 hours was worth 6K.

Kerbeck has probably 100 gs's in stock right now- their pricing fair and honest and better than any local dealer- Soon the c8 will be introduced and c7 interest will wane and there will be some price gouging on that model not to mention early model glitches that would have a prudent buyer wait at least a year., keeping the 2019 market strong for awhile longer

Dealers have monthly sales goals to meet. That is why you want to buy at the end of the month instead of the beginning of the month.

But is the calendar end of the month, the dealership's end of the month? Doesn't have to be and that would throw all the wait 'til the end of the monther's off.

It's not that difficult finding a good price on a new C7, regardless of season, the challenge is finding a good price on exactly what you want.

It’s possible but maybe not. I tried negotiating with a dealer on a Z51 that was priced at 56 They wouldn’t budge. The same car was still on the lot in February for 51.
