What Happened to My Car?
Please see attached pictures. I have no idea how this happened to my car.
- There are no marks or evidence of anything hit the rear bumper, or the quarter panel. Paint is flawless in the area.
- Car is very dusty, so if anything hit the car I should be able to see where it did. Nothing.
- I left the car in harsh sun for the first time of it's life for 2 hours.107 degrees in the shade.
- I did go to Home Depot (twice) and Costco this day, but parked the car far away.
- I suspect someone sat on the car. Not sure.
What do you think has happened to this car? What causes the rear bumper bulge out and gap as shown?

Whatever it was, it should be an easy fix at any competent body shop. Maybe one of the clips that attaches that part came loose.

I'm betting the heat weld at the bumper "bracket" failed and now the chassis top clip is not being engaged by the bumper. I'd try 2-part epoxy before I'd buy a new bumper. Wouldn't use super glue as cyanoacrylate is not compatible with acrylic, ABS and some PE (polyethylene), PP and PC blends.

It looks like a little heat pop. The Camaro get them (check thread here --> https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=529392 )
At least the clips on the C7 are in the proper spot. I think a slight tap will realign it.

^^^ This. Looks like the bumper simply popped out of the second fastener due to the extreme heat. I’ve seen other threads related to rear bumper gapping, so not a rare event and it should be an easy fix.

2014 car purchased in January is out of bumper to bumper warranty.
I tried pushing in the bulge, but it pops back out. The bulge has stayed like picture even after cooling down.
Thank you for all the pointers regarding clip, and adhesive.

I'd pull the top of the bumper (like you do for a spoiler install). You'd be able to see pretty quickly what's going on in there, and probably get it fixed pretty easily.
This video from Chevy Dude shows what you are in for. Not terrible... I did this when I swapped spoilers out, and took an hour because I used my feet only as a dare (ok, I didn't do that last part, but it wasn't bad).
