Discount Tire damaged all 4 wheels
#21
Run Flats require a special tire changing machine in order not to damage the rims. The place I use does a ton of tires and he was waiting on his new machine to come in. He would not attempt to change a run flat with the regular equipment most tire shop have. He explained, that the forks etc on the new machines are all encased in rubber, so they do no damage to the rims. So, the first question you should ask at a tire provider is not can you change a run flat but DO YOU HAVE THE NEW MACHINES MADE TO CHANGE A RUN FLAT.

I suspect this will take a while as well. They put the claim in online and a claims representative is suppose to contact me within 48 hours! We’ll see.... Either way I going to my dealership and have them order the new wheels. They told me they have Les Schwab do their tires and wheels for the dealership and have never had any issues. So I feel confident about it, and if they screw up, then it’s on them...

Sorry for your misfortune. Very surprising as I have had many tires mounted there over the years including C3,C4,C6 and C7 corvettes and never a problem with DT/AT.

Don't feel alone, Discount Tire ruined two tires mounting for me. They would NOT pay to replace them and charged me $250 for the privilege!

I'm lazy, so I've used the factory silver painted wheels on all our Corvettes and only occasionally need a small dab of touchup paint after tire work. About every 10 years I kiss a curb with one, $100 bucks to the wheel touchup guy and it looks like new.
But I gotta say, OP's wheels look nice.

Discount tire has always done a great job in changing my Corvette tires here in AZ. I never had a scratch or ding in any of my wheels. Can't say that I don't worry when I watch them try to get them off or back on. especially the rear ones. In most cases its a two person job. My dealer has a window that I can watch them through and they do struggle on those wide wheels with run flat tires. The manager told me they are not easy to do, but their equipment is scratchless. My 08 ZR1 Chrome wheels and my current C7 Chrome Z06 wheels had no issue when I had to change tires. They took off my C7 black Cup wheels to replace them with Chrome Z06 wheels and they were perfect also. I think overall, Discount tire here in AZ does a great job. By the way, they should stand behind the repair. They should be able to fix those dings.
Good luck!

Wow....I'd be sick too if that happened to my wheels. I got new wheels and tires mounted and balanced from DT Direct online.....came UPS ready to mount....perfect and no issues. Sorry for all your troubles.

For every negative comment about Discount Tire, I am betting there are a million good comments.

It is crazy how it only takes one bad experience to completely change your perspective (that goes for anything).

I agree for sure about Track Wheels! I have been using DT for all my tires and wheels and have no issues as well. Just a mistake and I’m sure they will step up and take care of me. Hopefully though, maybe this will make them buy one of those special tire changers for Run Flats.
