Default Just popped into my cranium....

….I apologize if this has been raised previously. Now you have that nice little drop down screen and
hideaway for some items (even hand guns...geez) that have some value. Did they ever come up with
the option of "locking" that drop down screen for valet or other similar circumstances?
If not, does it not make sense? If yes, move along, there's nothing to see here...….

Yes there’s a lock when you put it in Valet mode. It then takes a PIN number that you set to unlock the screen.

I guess I haven't tried but does it open without a FOB around?

Well you basically need the FOB to get in the car so I haven’t tried it but I think it still works even if the FOB isn’t around.

Since you need the fob to start the car (or put it in ACC), and you need the car running (or in ACC). to get the screen to unlock it, then having the fob around is necessary. Just reaching in and trying to open it won't give you the unlock screen.

I suppose you could throw the fob out the window after it's started, and then unlock the screen, but that seems like an unlikely scenario.

The screen goes up and down without a fob present. I don't use auto-lock and leave my car unlocked in my garage all the time. The fobs are in a metal canister well out of range of the car. I frequently go out to retrieve sunglasses, etc. from inside the cubby without taking a fob with me.

Yes, it will open and close w/o a fob present, but you need a fob to lock/unlock the valet mode. I thought the question was about valet mode.

Honestly, I haven't really found a practical use for the compartment.

Not saying it's useless, but I am curious about what others have used it for.

With the little shelf off Amazon I have my sunglasses on bottom and I put my wallet on top while driving

I added a divider to create two compartments.
Sunglasses, hand sanitizer, LED mini Maglite, pepper spray, Bluetooth earbuds, Altoids tin for loose change and "contingency" cash

I keep my wallet in there. Every now and then something else random. My arm rear compartment basically never gets used.

Valet Mode locks the glove box, too! (at least it does in my 2019)

I also have the cubby shelf, it makes the compartment more useful (to me, anyway).
Current inventory:
Prescription glasses (sometimes need them for night driving/reading)
Sunglasses
Checkbook
Cash
Pen
Antihistamine
Smokes & lighter (occasional smoker)
Mini flashlight
Spare wallet with backup credit cards, etc

Nice! Thanks for the ideas. The divider will definitely improve its usefulness.

FWIW, the bottom of the dash compartment is a perfect fit for a Ruger LCR.
Just use a Sandyeggo Designs shelf to separate other stuff in there.

Seems to be an all too tempting place for many to get things stuck.

The Sandyeggo Designs Bin Buddy (shelf) has a front lip to help prevent that from happening.
But I do agree that you have to watch what you're doing when you close the door. Sometimes looking at it from the front its hard to tell if something is sticking out too far. The small lip on the shelf not only holds small stuff back, but also gives a visual indication of where the limit is.
