Default Input on purchase decision

I recently found a deal to purchase a rebuilt '15 z51. Guy used a wide body kit. Car has 15,000 miles or so.

What do I need to look out for and what would be a good deal assuming car checks out?

Thanks.

Apart from anything else( as with any used vehicle) I'd be leery of any body mods and want to be sure they weren't a response to collision damage. All the best, no matter how it goes.

Z51 car was a wreck to begin with. Not sure if it was salvaged, but it was wrecked. He has sent me pictures of the wrecked car and the repairs. Car was then repainted.

The thing about these C7 Corvettes is that they aren't quite as simple as they used to be. Even if the car is offered at a REALLY cheap price, I would be apprehensive about making the purchase. It could end up costing you more than an "excellent" condition, un-touched used Corvette after you fix all of the things that the previous owner "fixed".

That's just me though. I passed up a fully loaded used Corvette in pristine condition with low mileage to buy a fairly well stripped out new Corvette because I wanted to be sure it was well maintained and not abused. To each his own.

You really need to find out if it has a salvage title-if so, it better be a great price, and plan to own it for a while, because you will take a big hit on resale.

8 need to knows about buying branded

YMMV, my mileage was simple, I took a 50% loss on purchase price when I traded in a branded titled car (stolen recovery, no accidents) after only 6 months of ownership.

Don't buy it unless it's practically free.

100% new car dealerships will not even take a salvage car in on trade due to lib on it. Plus look at about 50% to 60% worth by the book on a salvage title..

I'll agree - unless you can get the car at a very good price, I would pass and find one with no adverse history to it.

IMHO, forgeddiboutit. Too many great condition used C7’s to take a chance on a “good deal”, just to MAYBE save a few bucks, not to mention the possible major headaches on a wrecked C7 that has been patched back together. On the other hand, if the challenge excites you and saving every fraction of a penny is paramount, go for it. Let us know how you make out.

If the frame is straight with not cracks, it is basically a z51 with a z06 body kit and a rebuilt title with 15,000 miles on the engine, trans and frame.

If the frame is undamaged, at $30-35k, this would be a good daily driver. Thougths?

I would walk away from a car that was in a wreck.

Don't buy it, there are way too many problems you will almost certainly run into. They went through all the trouble of rebuilding it and now they're selling it - what does that tell you?

And I found this: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-widebody.html

This appears to be very honest and matches everything he has told me so far.

Thoughts?

Never would I buy a wrecked, and modded Corvette. Even at practically free I would think long, and hard before the purchase. At trade in time all the mods in the world will not get you any better price. All the dealer will look at is that the car was wrecked.

You sound like a "seller" trying to convince a buyer...not a "buyer" trying to convince "advisers". You asked. We are answering; Run. Find another. Move on.

Too many other fine choices out there I would pass on this one.

After seeing his rebuild photos, I'm not sure why we are talking about this. Aside from resale / long term value, do you seriously want to get in and drive a car at high speeds that has been through that? One undiscovered crack that fails, one air bag sensor that fails, one anything and you or your passenger could pay the price. Its a dangerous proposition in a brand new car in "perfect" condition, but how do you put yourself in harms way to save a few thousand dollars. Even at half the price, no thanks. Life is too short to die stupid. Just my $.02
