Stolen C7 Z06

Stolen C7 Z06
my 2016 C7 Z06 was stolen from my driveway last night. In a span of about 5 hours. There was no shattered glass and the car was parallel between two of my other cars. I contacted OnStar right away as well and they were unable to locate the vehicle or get a signal. This was in the Walnut Creek/Concord Bay Area of California. The car was in service for a cracked rim replacement right before this and the police were informed of that as well. Is it possible to start and open the car without the FOB? Insurance gave me the same story as Ive seen on this forum and said that they would wait two weeks before giving me a appraised value.

Sounds like the thief/thieves knew to disconnect the battery after they stole the car so it could not be tracked. Hopefully the police either find your car or the insurance company does right by you by giving you a very fair appraisal.

Someone there added a fob, came and snatched it, then unhooked the car from the battery so it couldn't be tracked before you woke up.
Good luck!

never thought I’d need one. In hindsight I did. Researched them briefly following the theft yesterday and was wondering if they’re detectable and if they get their power from the battery then if they’d be susceptible to the same flaw that ojnstars navigation/gps system is.

Sorry! It is a helpless position to be in, for sure.
I have often thought about this and wondered if I would even want a stolen Vette back after who knows what it has been through. The insurance would probably low ball me anyhow, so I don't know what outcome I would hope for.
I certainly wish you the best of luck.

Sorry to hear about that. If it is recovered I hope there is no damage. Our Ford Escape was stolen about a year of so ago. I tracked it down for the police because I had a TrackR device attached to it. I know this doesn't help you now but maybe in the future. But it is about the size of a dime and you can find a well hidden place on or in the car to attach it. Good luck and hoping for a positive recovery.

The only time there would be a record in the dealer's system is if they officially created a replacement fob for your car and ran the costs through their normal service paperwork. Of course an employee planning to steal your car wouldn't create paperwork for it. But other than in the car itself (where it will show a third fob is paired) there is no other record that another fob has been paired to the vehicle. You can do this yourself at home very quickly and easily by purchasing another fob and pairing it to your car. Up to 8 fobs can be paired and the instructions for doing so are in your owner's manual.

I read an earlier news where thieves can use a remote device to hack/open your car if the fob is within a certain distance. This is usually the case if you park your car in your driveway or in the street in front of your house/apartment. Since they knew to disconnect the battery/Onstar, they obviously are pros. Good luck with your claim. Sometimes you don’t want stolen cars back as I had a stolen Thunderbird SC recovered from a auto pound 6 months later after the drug running thief got busted. They traced it back to me by the VIN.
