Has anyone traveled RT 66 from Seligman to Oatman down to Rte 40?
My wife and I are celebrating our 23rd and we have a trip planned to go to Williams AZ, enjoy the Rt 66 scene, travel the Grand Canyone Railway,
then go to Seligman for more RT 66 ambiance.
Does anyone know IF the section of Rt 66 FROM SELIGMAN.........TO OATMAN.......and the section from Oatman south on Rt 66 to rejoin
Rt 40 IS A GOOD SECTION FOR MY C7 GS?
I don't want to get on RT 66 and find it to be be gravel and endure the stone pummeling from the tires.
All I need to know is this section of RT 66 from Seligman to Oatman to Rt 40 hardpaved or is there sections of unpaved road to traverse JUST ON THIS SECTION?
Thanks,
Happy Motoring and Yes save the Wave...........

It sure is. We drive it quite often. All paved. Road is not perfect by all means but you wont' be going that fast anyway because they are twisties there. No problems with potholes. You might see a few stones, but in those areas you won't be going fast enough for any damage. Just little gravel, but not much. There is quite a few areas where you can "lay it out" so to speak. Set your DIC to watch your Gforce. I have done that route with folks that have low profile tires and they didn't damage them. It's a great ride!

As Joe said, it's fine to travel. Enjoy the ride.

Thanks to both of you..........I'm looking forward to it. I finally got my wife to appreciate the Rt 66 culture, I took her to Holbrook for the Wigwam Motel and then we stopped in Winslow to do that "standing on the corner" thing. So now she wants to do more...........and if I can keep the complaining from the passenger seat to a minimum, I can enjoy the trip too. Praying for a safe, fun and memorable trip. Thanks again for your posting and pick, C7 looks good.

If it wasn't a 3 day drive from MD, I would love to drive the stretch of Rt. 66 through New Mexico and Arizona. Unfortunately it probably won't happen unless I fly out to Vegas and rent a Corvette. Hmm, maybe that's what I should do.

A big thanks to the OP for asking this timely question.

Many years ago, and not in a Vette. But in a car as low as Vette. You'll be fine.
South Carolina you mean.
I started from Santa Monica CA, took 66 as long as I could to Charlotte, NC.
Somewhere in OK, I looked in rear view mirror, and a GIGANTIC twister was right on my tail. With all debris flying.

The road to stay away from is I-40. LOTS of construction with multiple delays in that very area West of Flagstaff. You never know what you are going to find except guaranteed single-lane travel and the terrible multi-lane merges to get to that point. If you've got pavement, you're lucky. It's a massive project that has been going on for more than a year. I encountered it last September then again in June of this year.

I went through Flagstaff on I40 last week on my way to and back from Lake Havasu. Only issue was about a 10 minute delay due to an accident about 15 miles west towards Kingman on way there, but other than that, no issues at all.

Donkeys
Oatman is famous for it’s muti-generational Donkeys roaming freely on the streets and sidewalks.
Keep your windows up, as they like to stick their heads into car windows to beg for treats.
You can buy inexpensive Donkey food in the town to hand feed, and the Donkey’s will follow you everywhere.

You guys let me know when you will be up around Oatman this summer or so, and we'll have a few shots of whiskey or something. PM me. I can always meet you up there. It's only a one hour drive for me.....if you know what I mean.
Or coffee if you like. Oh, and if you need to wash your car or whatever you can stop by my house. I have pure water! We can have some tenderloin stake and cole slaw.

My club (Colorado River Corvette Club) did the run a couple months ago. Make sure to stop at the burger place in Seligman. Great ice cream and the staff is a lot of fun. Cool Springs just east of Oatman is another good stop. Crazy Larry is the new owner. His name suits him well. The drive from Cool Springs to Oatman is spectacular.
