~16 gallons is my normal fill-up. Probably where it came from.

When I was researching the car, I think I read/heard/saw 16 gallons, which stuck as it was the same as my '11 Mustang...

Never let mine get below 1/2 tank You never know when your going to need extra fuel for those power pushes

That's my SOP as well, but I am more comfortable if I know where the edges are...

Too much extra weight, need to be lean and mean for those unexpected races!

I find the opposite with the OEM tires on the street, with the tank closer to empty I get a lot more wheelspin off the line compared to when I have a full tank.

Bzzt! Thanks for playing! What you are probably thinking of is "What we got here is a failure to communicate."

It was my understanding to not let the fuel level routinely get below a 1/4 tank since the gas cools the fuel pump

When it's full, that 's about 100 pounds.

Old aviation saying:
"The only time I have too much fuel is if I'm on fire."
I normally refill at the first convenient time below 1/2 tank, but over the years in different Corvettes (including our 2017) I've run down to "Low Fuel" a fair number of times, that happens when the gauge is slightly above Empty.
Others have posted that the pump is cooled by fuel going
through it, not pooled around it. You're ok unless you run completely empty, then the pump burns out quickly.
But I can't prove or disprove either theory. Anyone know for sure?

If weight were a genuine issue, most Vette drivers I've seen would be far better off, in more ways than one, losing a few pounds themselves.
