He may not have a way to put a $1,000.00 deposit on the car on the spot. And/or is shakey on getting the total amount due on delivery, or may not be able to get/borrow the money.

I hate the thought of being out trying to buy something that you can't afford. That's just wasting everyone's time.

BTW, I instantly pulled out my VISA credit card and put $1,000.00 down on my new C7, after we agreed to a price and the salesman presented me with a signed Buyers Purchase Order for the new C7.

True, perhaps from his perspective. I am a bit cautious about buying used cars. I told him I need to do pre-purchase inspection at a mechanic before any commitment. In any case the buyer has more power, as the c7 is not a rare car after all.

Haven't been able to do 60 MPH on the 405 since 1975. No chance of roll over at 5-10 MPH.

I just bought a 2011 low mileage Camaro for my daughter to use for college. The dealer expected me to pay 100% up front BEFORE they would let my mechanics look at the car. I got up and started walking, I have NEVER been expected to pay for the car before the pre-purchase inspection. The dealer kept telling me that this is the "new standard" and that they would "gladly" give me the money back if there was something wrong. Have you ever tried to GET money back from a car dealer? After the purchase?

If I found a car I liked I would be happy to put a deposit to hold it until I had a chance to look it over. You are not considered serious until the checkbook comes out. That particular car was not "meant to be" for you, go find people with both types and decide which you really want. Most good Corvette dealers will help you there.

Me, I have one of each, 1968, L-71 427, 4 speed Convertible (with matching hardtop) and 1988 automatic Coupe. This way I have a choice of which one do I want to drive today?

Yeah, how's that policy working out for them?

LOL look at Mr. Bigshot here, bragging about being able to put a 1k deposit on a credit card. That's like a grown-*** man bragging about having a small d**k.

x2 OP if you like the drop top go get it. Cars that sit low are about impossible to flip anyways, cant worry about everything.

This is clearly a less expensive alternative to a shrink! It also supplies added side crash protection. Suggest the OP also order the Competition Seats so he can add a 5 strap/point racing harness. If sufficiently paranoid, get one for a coupe as well. Have those in my my ProStreet Rod -no airbags!

Have a 5 point racing harness in my ProStreet Rod Sedan! Need a roll bar to attach!

Whatever OP decides please don't be one of those that drives a coupe with the top off and the windows up. That's just wrong and looks so dorky IMO. Some even photo their cars that way. Really.....couldn't lower the windows first?

I can see the OP’s point. On one hand, 1-2% of asking is more than a fair deposit. But only if the seller dealer is reputable. When people list on EBay, that distinction falls for me around a 100+ Feedback score which includes recent reviews; then, I’ll leave a deposit. Even so, I’ve been defrauded there recently by someone (car related) with a 2000ish score.

There's risk in every business, so I understand you, man. This is really a depression because many do not fully know the case begin to climb into the very depths, because of this they lose a lot...
