Base Corvettes can get overshadowed by the Z06. Here are 5 of the best mods to do to your base C5, C6 or C7 that won’t break the bank.

Here's my favorite suggestion on how to make my car go faster...make it as light as possible.

I know that more horsepower can certainly be fun, but let's be honest, on the street you can't utilize all of it anyhow. I can go full throttle from a dead stop in my 455hp C7 with just a hint of wheelspin off the line and then it pushes me back in the seat very nicely. If I tried the same with a Z06, I'm sure it would result in massive wheel spin and I'd have to feather the gas and I wouldn't feel that same push back in my seat at all as a result. On the track, or with super sticky tires, the Z would destroy my base model. Line the two of us up on the street and I bet 9 times out of 10 I can beat it to the next stoplight with ease.

That's my belief, yes. I saw a guy with an A8 ZR1 on You Tube that made a bunch of 0-60 runs and because of wheelspin, most of the time he could barely get the car to run a better time than I can get out of my base model (I can consistently run 3.9 to 4.2)

Nah, I've seen threads on here go off topic on post 2 Besides, has it really gone off topic now? The thread is about "improving the base model" and one of the suggestions was more power, so we're just saying that more power doesn't always equal an improvement, since you might not be able to use all of that extra power on the street.

Wow Pat, I've got an A8 base and consistently do 3.9 to 4.2 0-60. Unfortunately there is a big (HUGE) difference going stop-light to stop-light with a car capable of 3.0 to 3.5 0-60, like train lengths difference. I agree maybe a short stop-light with a M7-Z as I'm sure they are tough to get out of the hole without bogging or torching the street tires; but it will have to be a short stop-to-stop, as that freight train will be coming on fast -- LOL. My advise, if you happen to get lucky and actually pull him, give him a thumbs up and call it a day LOL. He will be the one driving away pissed off. I think we are both better off sticking with the mustangs, challengers, ss camaro's etc. Let the Z guys and the 911TT do their own thing.

I never said A8 vs M7, I said A8 455hp vs A8 650hp+. I still stand by my belief, because I know the Z is capable of better 0-60 time with a perfect launch, but my point is that it's much harder to get that perfect launch with that much power, because they can't simply mash the pedal to the floor and run consistent times like my lower powered C7 can do.

Early Bird
We took delivery of our convertible in Dec 2013. There was no Z06 no GS, just the standard suspension and Z51 coupe or not. But 450-460 hp gets us to the church on time. And we have no track time reserved. So first base was our baseline. We ordered painted wheels to boot. On delivery, the base wheels and tire came off. On went bigger skins on HRE's in the 19-20 Z51 spec. Time we sold the OEM wheels and tires, the HRE's were about a break even with Z51 $s RPO. We look mah-va-luss and no one knows we are a quart light.
[p.s. Sorry to be back on topic.

Thank God we're years away from the taillights arguments.....maybe?????
Back to the topic at hand, I doubt the mainstream C7 owner would be able to tell the difference in an everyday drive on public roads btwn the acceleration of a base and a Z06. Just sayin......
