2017 Grand Sport to Callaway vs ZO6
Ok....corvette nut job / first time owner here.
Got 2017 GS 2lt. Having some remorse over not going ZO6!!!
i got a great deal a couple weeks ago, considering Callaway conversion.
I understand it can be done for less via a speed shop / edlebrock but The extra cost for Callaway reputation and GM warranty / peace of mind has value to me, plus Callaway name says it all. Without going into what I paid for the GS...I can invest in Callaway and still be less than a ZO6 even from what prices I see on end of year specials. Yes the ZO6 has 650hp and the Callaway is 627 but I am not hung up on those specs and I hear from numerous references the Callaway is just an outstanding performance option.
i am 99% there....any thoughts

I did the Callaway conversion on my 2014 Corvette Z51 and I absolutely love it. I have had the car on the track and Mojave Desert and have not had one problem with overheating and the Callaway bump looks great.

You get what you pay for and the piece of mind while you’re having fun is a whole lot better than being on the edge of your seat hoping nothing goes wrong every time you get on it some.

Chris at Callaway represents the company well and that along with the comments of the forum push this to 110% decision!!
As mentioned above....considered Edlebrock and even 2017 supercharger off new ZO6....( I am sure they will work great) but, I just do not want to work at fixing issues.....having a national Dealer network, GM support and Callaway reputation just seems like an obvious choice.
here is the before...looking for king forward to sharing after pics!!!

Hey, go for it! Far fewer Cally's than Z06's.

Other possibilities are A&A and ECS. They both have centrifical superchargers.. I ran an A&A Vortech V3 Si supercharger on my C5 for several years. My C5 was quite a bit faster than my new GS. After my warranty runs out, I'll be adding an A&A supercharger to it. Also, the A&A unit is California CARB legal.

Exactly.
Smart move. You aren’t the first guy and won’t be the last to discover that as great as the GS is, for a fun reliable street car, it needs a bullet proof supercharger. Yes you can save some money by having a good installer do an Edelbrock, Maggie etc, but the first time that check engine light comes on or other issues crop up on the drive train, who you gonna take it to ? Especially if the installer isn’t local. Callaway has a bunch of dealers spread thruout the country and will be there to support you in the process. That said, you know they will do a first class install so the odds are nothing will go wrong to begin with.

Looks like you’re digging a deeper hole. If you want a Z06, then cut your losses and get a Z06. If you’re certain that you’ll be happy with the Callaway, then go for the conversion.

The better option is to get a Z06. There are more differences than just a supercharger: engine components, fueling, torque tube, clutch, hood, other body parts, cooling, etc.
You’ll have a 650/650 car that was built to handle 650/650. The Callaway option will be a 627/610 car that was built to handle 460.
The Grand Sport is a nice car and Callaway has a great reputation here but the more durable car as well as least depreciation will be the Z06. You’ll also have the opportunity to secure a much more robust GMEPP/GMPP on an unmodified car.

Another is better fuel economy with the GS because of it's higher compression ratio, on everyday part throttle driving..
The Callaway supercharger is larger(2.3L vs 1.74L) and has triple intercooler bricks vs only two on the Z06.

Considering you have the GS I would go to Callaway. Much better and cost effective option if you're not hung up on the numbers. When done it'll run right with the Z06.

the LT1 would be taxed more so than the LT4, which was designed for FI.... having said that, i would, if i had the GS already, would do the conversion. it would be very cool and even with the LT1 worked harder than the LT4, if not totally abused, would last.. look at the durability of the Callaway vehicles... amazing.. their C6 over 200k on it..
and they look cool.
and they look cool.

Thanks. Our 2010 Callaway SC606 now has over 272,000 miles, and still never any issues. It's still going... And that was a GS which was "designed" for 430 hp
