Default Leaving for grad school-take car or leave back home?

So I'm leaving for grad school for a year to the fort worth area. I'll just be gone for a year then will be back home. What do you all think? Take my 2015 z51 or leave it back home and take my daily (Honda civic) I'm renting within walking distance to university so there wont any commute

Obligatory picture.

Tons of great places to drive around here. I think you will miss not having it.

Love your color choice.

If it were me, I would start out by taking the Civic which would allow you time to settle in and scope out the situation from a security aspect. A car port is nice, but still allows yahoos to tamper with your car so getting a feel for how the neighborhood is will go a long way for your sanity. If things check out fine and you feel warm and fuzzy, I'd make the trip back to get the Z51.

yes this is along what I had been thinking of doing. Only thing is it's a 9 hour trip each way.
Both my dad and inlaw have been pestering me about leaving it with them hahaha

Thnks. Yes I think your right. Would be awesome to explore out. Down where I'm from it's a flatland. Very few twisties or scenic routes.

Take it. It can be a stress-reliever for some of those classes you’ll be taking and something to look forward to at the end of a long day of studying. I can’t imagine looking forward to a ride in a Honda at the end of the day.

Top down cruises rowing through gears does sound pretty liberating after a long day. +1

You don’t mention how far school is from your current location? You get breaks like all students that I would assume you might go home if nothing else to Check on the house and drive the vette, plus if your going with wife and kids you obviously have a second car...tough choice. If in the same bout just because you said it’s only a carport I would take the Honda. Or at lest for 1/2 the year.

Having been a grad student for more years than I'd like to admit... and then having trained/taught other grad students for still far longer (yet, being a REAL car geek), I say leave the car at home and walk as much as possible your year at school. Have someone at home keep up the car for ya while you're gone. And, work HARD!

It's all dependent on your financials, and age.

500 miles away from home, so not exactly a quick drive. Yes wife will have one vehicle and I'll mostly be carpooling/walking. Vette would just be for what little leisure time I would have.

DFW traffic is not for the faint of heart so the car would definitely make going anywhere easier.
