My 2019 Grand Sport
I really want to say Thank You to all that gave me advice and support and mainly the confidence that it is not “too much car” for me. I got it to 70 today when I picked it up and not one time felt like I couldn’t handle it. The ONLY two things I noticed different than my 2016 Z51 were the tires felt a little grittier (but could be the roads because we have a lot of construction going on) and a little more road noise. But I also didn’t have the radio on because I didn’t want any distractions being my first time in it.
Its BEAUTIFUL and I’m in love with it already.
If there are others that own a BLACK car, fill me in on your detailing regime on how you keep it shiny and scratch free.

That's awesome, you look pretty happy. I find that I keep the music off most of the time because there's already music coming from the engine. Keep us posted. I got mine June 29th and love it more every time I take her out.

Beautiful GS, can't go wrong with black and chrome wheels.
Get a quality ceramic coating to help with the scratching/swirl marking.
I thing you will be able to handle it just fine

Congrats Jen. I have not had a black vette since my convertible c5. I used a regular Zaino regimen on it, usually washing and adding 2-3 coats every few weeks. The Z5 (the zaino swirl remover I believe) I used once in a blue moon. Never had scratch or swirl marks. I use a strict rule...if I drop a towel or applicator on the ground, it goes in the trash. No exceptions. Enjoy your new ride.

First off Congrats on your new car !!! Got mine on July 6th so I know the feeling. Asking for detailing help on here is kind of like talking about religion and politics. Everyone has there own idea and believes theirs is the best. I will tell you that I did not use a ceramic coating or Xpel or any of that stuff on my 2016 Z51 and will not use it on my 2019 GS Vert. (disclaimer, it is not a daily driver) While all of these have good protection qualities I am just not convinced spending 3k on ceramic coating that has to be reapplied later, 3-5 years i believe, just is not worth it when I actually enjoy cleaning and polishing my car. The Xpel or film you put on cars is just that. A plastic film that goes over your car. Most people say that you can't see it however I will tell you that I can and I do not like the look of anything over the paint job. That being said I would NOT tell someone to avoid these products as the reviews and others testimony seem like they are good products that do what they say. As far as keeping your car scratch and swirl free start looking at Youtube. I think a couple of the most important things is getting the paint corrected right away and then it is just taking care of it. If you search the threads on here you will find that the responses are all over the board for what name brand to use however there begins to be a trend for some of the major ones. I went with Adams Polishes (no I do not get paid to say that nor am i trying to start a fight) just because I finally decided on that brand. I am happy with it so far but it is work keeping a car clean. You should also look into using the 2 bucket method on your car for washing and definitely get microfiber towels and rags. I can't believe that back in the day i actually used bath towels on my cars since I didn't know any better and there was nothing else available (hold on guys before you crucify me this was in the 1980's) Good luck on your new car

Congrats on your beautiful car! Enjoy it, drive it! Don’t stress over scratches , stuff happens. Many good products out there. The biggest difference is you. The more you touch the more chances of scratches. Soft plushy micros, buckets, lots of water, even a leaf blower instead of drying with a towel. Basically , if the towel is dirty it will scratch your car. If all fails, once a year get it professionally detailed. Drive, smile & wave. Make everyone driving around you jealous!

Congrats on your new GS, it's a great looking car. Dark colors like black, Admiral Blue, etc. look really great when they're clean and polished. I had a black C5 and now have an Admiral Blue C7 that I maintain with Zaino products with excellent results. The tread in my car club right now is to have the car ceramic coated. Several members have had this done and love the results. They claim washing is rarely required as the coating sheds dirt. They say they only rinse it off with a hose when dirt does show. It's expensive (to me anyway) at around $1,500. It is guaranteed for seven years, so you may want to at least consider it. I have had Expel put on my car as a protectant for rock chips, etc. and I'm happy with that although it's not inexpensive either and you still need to go through a washing and waxing regimen. Best of luck with your new beauty!

I had a black car for 13 years, they look great when clean but start showing dirt after the first drive, lol. Here's a thing I realized though, if its not your car, you're not looking at it as closely and then black still looks great most of the time, you only really notice issues when its your car and you're obsessively looking for them.
But black does show clear coat imperfections more than any other color, so you have to be extra careful protecting it. - Don't touch, rub, or even look at the paint wrong when it's dirty or dusty. ONLY hand wash the car. When washing, rinse the car thoroughly before washing it with a sponge or microfiber mit or whatever you use to apply soap - this is the most important step, otherwise when you start washing it, the dirt still on the car will act like a sandpaper and then you end up with swirls and scratches. Get a small leafblower to blow water out of the cracks and crevices, because black shows waterspots really really well.
For maintainance, get a tube of magiaurs scratch x to remove the unavoidable scratches, and for paint chips get some dr color chip.
