Default What is inside the rocker at this point

2016/ Z51/A8
Help, I’m in the middle of installing side skirts on the passengers side, and have run into some unexpected gray matter. Is this just some adhesive or is it something important, like conduit or unexpected cooling lines? All the other holes drilled through fine without any interference.

I just did mine last weekend and didn't run into anything like that. I've also got a Z51. I thought the body glue was black, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully the used grey adhesive on mine.

Yes, that's why I started on the passengers side to warm up. Figured I'd be safe!

there's a DIY floating around...i think it talks about not driller deeper than 12mm (if I remember correctly) because of the lines.

I used fender washer's under a shallow rivet.Washer gives you more area to hold.Drill shallow as possible.May even need a stop on the drill bit for the..Just in case

After waiting a day, and not hearing anything from our technical guru’s such as don’t worry about it, or danger Will Robinson. I probed around a little more with a couple different devices. I didn’t feel any give, or movement like a conduit or tube would do. So I threw caution to the wind, crossed my fingers, and drilled a couple millimeters further to where I could put a short rivet in it. I think it is just some extra adhesive that happens to be in the same spot. Nothing has leaked out, nor smoked and caught fire......yet.

If you plan on installing skirts, using mechanical devices, the directions say, as Deepdiver said, not to drill anymore than 5 mm, or a quarter inch. I don’t have a stop for my drill bit so I rigged one with this piece of tubing, it worked well. I do suggest using something because the drill bit will grab and sometimes want to go deeper than recommended.

The finished product:

Next project; the splitter waiting for me in the garage, or paint the house. Uhm?

The side skirts look great on your car. Using the tubing as a stop point was a good idea.

Excellent job. Looks great. Paint the house next. It appreciates in value. The vette does not!

For some folks tape is probably the best approach, but I bought this car to drive in a spirited manner, and I do so.
I just don’t want any issues after the Florida sun, sand, and salt has had a couple seasons to work on it. Especially on a track crossing into the triple digits.

Sorry I didn’t get this one in with the other pics, and it seems to be difficult due through the edit process when using my iPad where all the pictures are.

FYI, I hit that stuff too when I did my install last year. Kind of scary, but I did just pick a different place to drill. No problems!
