Gas pump nozzle keeps clicking off

Gas pump nozzle keeps clicking off
This is the third time this has happened. And only the fourth time I've put fuel in it. With an 18 gallon tank this can get frustrating. I pump 38 cents *click* 42 cents *click* 93 cents *click*. I try holding the nozzle in all different angles trying to get this thing to fill. $58.00 and 15 minutes later I finally filled up the tank. Is there some sort of sensor in these capless fueling systems that could have gone bad?

Try
pumping gas slower
pulling the nozzle out a bit when pumping
different gas pump
different gas station

Try turning the gun to 9 oclock and only setting trigger at 1/2 way. Mine does the same if I try to pump it fast.

I have tried all the recommendations. Sometimes it works, other times it does not. Just something I deal with. Only car I have ever had the issue with.

Tried a couple different pumps and stations. Same problem. To make matters worse. If I hold up the nozzle and not lock it. It overflows spilling all over the place.

I have had no problem turning the handle 'upside down' while pumping. I do get early shutoffs if held in the conventional position.

Just don't put a lot of downward pressure on the filler neck as there is a reported defect in the tanks on some cars. I am more cautious about hanging the nozzle on the filler neck.

Try another nozzle... seriously! Some work on my '18, some don't, pure and simple.

doesnt require this all the time....on my corvette but every once in awhile..
meanwhile it fills the tank with no issue ...so give it a shot...
if you want to try filling with the handle in a more traditional setting....I’d suggest trying with a slower fill up speed.
if I took a guess...the fill rate is too fast and it’s backing up shutting off the pump...
for some ore reason flipping the handle upward resolves the issue.
good luck

I've only had the issue with my C7 at one station, and it wasn't the one I frequent, but in my C6, I had it all the time. Upside down always worked for me.

For all nozzle the auto shut off is at the end of the nozzle. There is a little hole on the end, to test just put your finger over the hole and the nozzle should shut off. Look at the brand of nozzle, if it is husky that may be your problem, that is a cheap nozzle. OPW seem to work the best on filling this car. If you are in a state with vapor recovery, they seem to be more sensitive. Just my 2 cents.

put the nozzle with the grip handle up and as stated there is no problem filling up..

Mine did it the first time at a Hess station, not a brand I usually use. but turning the handle upside down fixed that. However, as the recipient of the exploding gas tank warranty letter, I held the nozzle instead of letting it find a lean-to support in the gas tank funnel opening. GM isn't real specific as to what happens to make the tank break and the gas and vapors leak out, and I don't want the GM suppliers' lowest priced bid piece of ***** plastic gas tank to crack because a mean ole heavy fuel pump handle was leaning on it.

All fill rates are regulated for 10 gallons per minute for consumer gas, 30 gallon per minute on high flow diesel. A slow flow condition will cause the auto shut off not to work, thus you may spill gas on ground when car is full. It is all in the nozzle and nozzle type. If the site is pumping slow then the filters on the dispenser are dirty, you may want to go somewhere else.
i put 124k miles on my corvette and it’s not big a problem...it’s one that is easily resolved as suggested,
turn the handle upside down so it’s facing up if you are having a fueling issue.
shouldnt require this to be done each time but rather once in awhile.

I have found that it happens most often when I'm filling from closer to an empty tank. When I fill up at the halfway point or earlier, this problem doesn't happen to me.

I just rotate it a bit like 4 to 5 o'**** . That's all it takes.

I had the same problem. Now when I go to fill up I know how many gallons I need, flip the handle upside down and set it short of full speed. When I get close to full I finish by holding the handle and no longer have problems. Works every time for me now.
