Default C7 Battery Life, 2014 38,300 miles

Battery lasted 4year and 21 day. Just a heads-up if you need to get into the glove box forget it.
If you need to get into the glove box for the number to call roadside service forget it.
Like the cubby behind the Nav screen the glove box needs power to open.

Not really. You can get into the glove box w/o power.

Battery life is a crap shoot - I have seen car batteries last 8 years and crap out in as little as one - just had a warranty change of the battery on our 2017 Acura - 20 months old and 22,000 miles, so the OP's statement of 4 years being the life of a C7 battery means nothing.

Q: Did you notice that previous to dying, did the battery's power of cranking "drag" at times when starting in the past? I use the "drag" factor as doing a preemptive battery change out in my cars. This, to me beats being out in the cold cuz I already got an indication of the battery's impending death.

Also, familiarize yourself with the metal key to open the rear hatch led or trunk lid, to then be able to pull the left door release cord in the rear storage area to unlatch/open the drivers door.

Will a Chevrolet or GM dealer just go ahead and hand you a new battery if you pull up to do a warranty swap out - if you want to DIY? I get the fear of having some oil changer guy screwing up something back there when doing a simple changeout.

I'm more comfortable with doing a battery changeout myself.

When my 100 month pro rata guaranteed Ford Motorcraft batteries for my 7.3 Liter V8 Powerstroke diesels batteries (there's two!) start to "drag" after a few years, I remove them and do a credit swap out at my Ford dealer. Since it's a big labor charge having them do the battery labor changeout on a 7.3 E450.

Battery life is changed by outside temperature. Cool/cold weather is better than warm/hot weather. Two years to maybe three years here in northeast Florida. 17000 miles on my 2016 and battery life is a crapshoot! My 2008 Corvette battery gave me NO WARNING when it died.

Default C7 BatteryLife

There was no warning that the battery was failing. Drove to the store parked the car.
Came out 30 minutes later and the door would not open. Used key to pop the rear hatch, pulled
door release and opened the drivers door. There was no power at all. Nothing lite up . Dash, radio,
reading lights.

My "normal" battery life has been about three years for 11 cars and 20+ batteries. Anything beyond that is a plus... High ambient temps don't help.

The last three batteries I have had in my cars have lasted as follows:

Optima Red Top - 7+ years and when I sold the car, the battery was still working fine.
Optima Red Top - 3 years, 1 month when it died.
Sears DieHard Platinum - nearly 8 years and still going strong in my current car.

I do keep the car on a battery tender when not being driven.

4 yrs 8 months on mine, seemed a little slow starting one time, put the new battery in that evening. Had been thinking I was
living on borrowed time, just didn’t have the time to change it.But made time real fast.

I have averaged around 7 - 8 years on car batteries up here in cool and cold Minnesota as we only get about two months of warm/hot weather. I even went over 10 years once on a car battery. I do keep my cars on a battery tender when not being driven for a few days or more. I'm starting month 52 on my C7 battery so far, but can't say the same for the key fob battery.

I just went through this on my 2017 GS that only has 3000 miles on it. Friday evening washed and detailed it as I was planning to take it down to my brothers house, a nice two hour drive through all back roads. Saturday morning I get in and push the start button and I get a message on the dash that the vehicle is in "Low battery shutdown mode" or something like that. I thought maybe I left something "on" from when I was detailing it the night before although couldn't imagine what. Oh well, I plugged in the trickle charger and took off in my truck for the day. Got home last night after about 15 hours and figured the battery should be topped off by now. NOPE, now it is completely dead. The interior lights won't even go on.

I really have no desire to have my car hauled away on a flatbed and taken to the dealer unless it is the last resort. I guess I will try a new battery first. If this a failed battery issue that's less than 15 months of life. Pathetic to say the least. I will likely put an Optima in it.

This. I've replaced three batteries in three different cars in the last 5 years. In all three cases I saw (or heard) it coming. A load test confirmed a replacement was necessary.

No indication at all. Car started fine when I backed it out of the garage to wash it and started fine an hour later when pulled it back into the garage. The only indication was the next morning when it wouldn't even attempt to turn over. At that point all the other electrical items worked.

Two-three years is about average for a Florida battery, anything beyond that is borrowed time. I've experienced failure within the 3'rd year....when on starting, you hear the starter "catch" on cranking, other time I go to start and it's completely dead.

Our other car went in for a for it's 36th month service and I had them put a new battery in even though the one we had tested fine. Just isn't worth the hassle of getting stranded and having to wait of a roadside tow.

Best to replace when not needed! In an emergency, AAA tech will surly rip the carpet getting access! Several reports of dealers doing that. Best to pull off the bottom clips on the right plastic wheel well before pulling out the carpet. That is not mentioned in the Owner’s or Service Manual. Battery needs some type of grabber to get out of the hole. Not obvious how to remove power board! It must be the right shape not just battery number to have the power board fit as well as the foam cover!

Replaced mine after 3 1/2 years in the late summer when it wasn’t needed. Usually on sale in summer as a-posed to winter when many fail!

When I returned the old battery to get the $10, told the manager of a store that often replaces batteries free of the issues as I was one on the first C7’s to get a new one since mine was made in September 2013. He said they no longer will change a battery when access is difficult and tell folks to go to the dealer!

Understood their positioin, as I checked and a YouTube video that showed a ~3 hour effort to replace the wife’s Porsche Cayenne battery. The whole driver’s seat must be removed not just titled back. Even bought the special very large Torx bit needed fit the seat bolts. Removing the plastic seat trim to get access looked like it would be a real PIA. Lots of electrical connections. Did not have the time to tackle and we had to go on a 500 mile trip with the battery reading 11.8 volts. Porsche wanted $900 for a new battery and were over an hour away.

Traded it in on a new BMW and made the trip fine!

Yes, try living in Las Vegas. I preemptively changed mine out at 3 1/2 years. Didn't want some guy who'd never done it on a C7 before "learning" on my car. Sometimes you only get 2 years on a battery here and it's worth it to avoid the aggravation and possible damage to have it done by someone you don't know.

I'm sure I'm nearing the end of the road with my battery. 2014 w/41k miles on it here in Texas. Hoping it lasts until March (will be my 5 year mark) then I'll just have the dealer do it during the annual inspection and engine coolant flush.
