Default I done messed up - need source for replacement carbon side skirts

It makes me sick to my stomach, but I violated my poor girl’s carbon side skirt (driver’s side) during a parking maneuver today. The OEM carbon side skirt needs to be replaced; it’s the extended kind as I have a -gulp- Carbon 65 GS.

So, I have two questions for your kind and forgiving people: 1) What are the best sources for buying a single carbon skirt from GM online? and 2) are there any aftermarket options that are identical in visual appearance and quality to OEM that are options (since I only need to buy one skirt)?

I know s—t happens but I’m really mad at myself for making such a rookie error, but I guess it’s bound to happen sometime and I hadn’t done a dumb in a long while.

Thanks again,
-Ash

Tough break. Good luck with the replacement piece.

Thanks and yeah... hate those expensive bonehead moves. I’ve parked in that awkward angled spot countless times. This time my focus just wasn’t sharp enough.

Anyone have recommendations on aftermarket brands that have weaves and quality optically equivalent to OEM, please let me know. Prices on these parts vary wildly apparently, and if I don’t go oem, I don’t want to get something that doesn’t mount up well to the OEM points and/or fades over time.

Thanks

You might want to talk with the folks at TKO Performance. They are a CF vendor and will be able to help you make your problem a memory.

Thank you for the heads up, I will check them out as well!

So far, I’m looking at OEM, APR, Katech, RPI, and now TKO. It seems no one sells single sids other than OEM and frankly, that’s the only one that is guaranteed to match so I’m leaning in that direction. Have to wait till tomorrow to get pricing back from various vendors...

What's the quickest way to get in touch with Niko from Trunkmonkey parts? Does anyone have a direct email address for him to PM me?

I did a search for him and found subchev screen name but that hasn't been logged into in a couple months.

Thanks,
-Ash

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing on on 2016 Z, fortunately I had purchased my skirts aftermarket from APSIS USA & he sold me one side, but I still had to pay big since they were exposed carbon fiber. Before it is all said & done, it will happen again especially if you drive the car a lot, I am on my second splitter, damm Ground Hog got me one time & road tire gators another time.

Thanks gents. Any sense though on which brands match identically in appearance to oem? Can't find any posts that point that out.

Heads up. I just received the Apsis exposed carbon fiber side skirt that I ordered based on reviews and claims that the weave and color are identical to OEM, but unfortunately they are not. The weave twill dimensions are indeed identical to stock, but the "direction" of the primary bias is actually 90 degrees to the OEM, which shows up as a sweeping effect that looks like it's sweeping "forward" on the Apsis, and "backwards" (think delta wing) on the OEM part. The second issue is, the tint of the Apsis part is off, as OEM has a brownish tint added to it which Apsis and probably every other aftermarket manufacturer doesn't do... except possibly TKO performance, who I'm learning will do the tinting during build for an extra cost.

I've got an email and call out to TKO to see if they're willing to build just one side. Apsis was very cool about doing that, so that was a big plus with going with them. They also promised a satisfaction guarantee so I'm going to reach out to them to see if they'll honor it and take a return, after hearing TKO's quote of course.

Attaching pics for reference. Hopefully this helps someone in the future. The OEM parts are still attached to the car (above), while the Apsis part is below.

OEM above. Apsis below.

OEM above, Apsis below.

I agree the direction is incorrect for the carbon fiber pattern, however I believe the tint you see is a result of UV exposure. Most carbon I have dealt with over the years will fade to a lighter tent because of sunlight. Thoughts?

Only problem with that theory is it's a 2018 with 2k miles on it. It's not fade.

Interesting, I don't remember seeing the lighter color when I was at the dealer. Perhaps you can them both re-cleared with a transparent black to get the colors even?

No thanks... This is a Carbon 65 car. I've got the oem splitter, roof, one piece rear wing all in matching tint... I'd rather have a matching part.

Going to contact Apsis and see what they can do. May have to bite the bullet and spend 1.5x on OEM part.

TKO performance doesn't make a z06 style skirt so they are unfortunately not an option.

I have a brand new OEM side skirt waiting to go on my car, so I went to the garage to look at it. My GS has just over 2,000 miles on it and both the old skirts and the new have what I think is the same tint as the OEM skirt in Ashmostro's pics. I don't think it's aging. See my pic and tell me what you all think. Original skirt with 2k miles attached to car, new OEM skirt for other side is below it:

Thanks Marco. Agreed. It's well known that GM does a tint to their resin. As I mentioned earlier, TKO performance will do this tint for a fee on their custom carbon parts. Problem is they don't do a z06 style skirt. Theirs is more of a C7R replica/homage style so I'd have to buy the pair at $1500 + tint fee. Might as well go oem at that rate.
