Well, since I have a '14, the OEM is pretty much my only in car screen and HUD option.

It gets me there 100% of the time.

The HUD is tremendously important to me.

Waze has saved my lead-foot *** from at least 3 punitive tickets in the last 6 months or so...and that is a conservative estimate.

Ok, I answered WAZE. (16 so it has Android auto) I like the peer to peer reporting of police and hazards. I like the Ok Google commands, it always gets it right.

As a second choice, I like the fact I can call ON Star and have them download to the OE nav. (because the voice control must think I speak Klingon or something. It NEVER gets it right.) Yeah I pay for the On Star nav and XM monthly, and I DON'T CARE about the money. I'm 2/3's dead (62 retired), and have no children to leave my money too. I also fly first class or business when I travel. I also don't spend 4 hours haggling with a dealer over the last $500 on a $72,000 car... I drink, I know things, and I play golf.

I use WAZE all over the country. It works better than everything else. Red light cameras and speed cameras are always my worries when traveling in cities. WAZE saves me.

Even if you don't pay for On Star, you can install the On Star app on your phone and push your own destination to your car's navigation.

For navigation, Google maps. For road tripping, Waze.

  1. WAZE is good because it tells you we’re the police & hazards are.
  2. WAZE does not have lane guidance. Big miss there.
  3. WAZE voice command rarely understand you.
  4. Google Maps is a better mapping service. Also, when driving it shows you the route options as you drive and you can re-route with a push of a button.
  5. Google needs police and hazards when it can be the go to app hands down. That feature is coming in an update later this year.

Once Google Maps is available via Apple CarPlay with iOS12, I will use it as my go to map.

Last BIG feature with Google Maps, you can download maps offline. When I did my 4,172 mile road trip, Apple and Waze were not up for the challenge. 35% of the trip did not have cell coverage.

Game of Thrones fans will understand

I'm a big Waze fan...
I use over all else

Unfortunately Carplay doesn't have it and when my phone syncs, I lose the audio for Waze.

I travel for work quite a bit, and do not need navigation in my local area. Never really liked Google or Apple maps. For years I went with Navigon, mainly since it had all the maps on my iPhone. Even worked in other countries without needing data roaming.

Now that Navigon is no longer being updated, I decided to try out Waze and Apple maps again. Personally, I like Apple Maps--kind of amazed at the improvements in recent years. I like the frequency and timing of turn alerts, and the lane recommendations for complicated intersections is great. If I a somewhere with terrible reception, I have Maps.ME with off-line maps.

I'm another huge WAZE fan, used it for years. Like the fact it re routes you in case of traffic backup, etc. I also use the built in factory Nav at the same time as I like seeing the lane guidance feature if I'm in an unfamiliar area.

Once iOS 12 is available (September 2018), you will be able to use WAZE and Google Maps via Apple Carplay.
