Gremlin in my '15 Z51
Help me with this one please. When I close the driver's door to exit the car locks. If I'm doing errands the fob is in my pocket and the car unlocks when I approach it. When the day is done I close the door and go in for the night. The next day/morning I approach the car with the fob in my pocket and the door won't unlock. I have to use the fob and push the "unlock" button. I then do my running around and have no problem getting in the car. 9200 miles on the car
This just started happening.
Thanks

Since it is a 2015, I would replace the fob batteries and you may want to consider replacing the car battery as well. See if replacing the fob batteries fixes it. Did you try your other fob?

Fast, helpful answers. Altho one wouldn't expect necessarily, a '15 can be approaching 4 years old depending on what year it was built. At that, those little batteries can just get tired.

As my own piece of mind, I replace FOB battery yearly, that fob is constantly transmitting to the car. Also as stated the cranking battery is more than likely dying.

The fob uses an extremely minute amount of energy listening for a query from the car, but never quests unless a button is pushed.
The car never quests, but uses a small amount of energy listening for a query from the fob (when a button on the fob is pressed). The car won't "unlock" until either a button on the fob is pressed, the car recognizes it, and allows the doors to open, or a button on the car is pressed and goes through the same ID process when the fob answers.
There is no active unlocking of either C6 or C7; the last time there was this was in the late 1990's during the C5 gen.

Round #2
Today first time NO NOTHING from the fobs. I used the "secret" hatch method to get in. Horn starts blaring got in started the car
battery gauge was over 14. Looked in the book found a paragraph that said stick it into the steering column but decided to replace the batteries later today. No message from the DIC that the fobs batteries were low. My 2010 was here 6 years no fob trouble EVER.
Thanks everybody

So the car is never locked?

Yes, of course it can be "locked". However, if the car is "locked", it never UNlocks until the moment you press the 'open' button on the door -- at which point the car calls out to see if a known fob is near. No known fob near? Car door doesn't open.
If you press the "unlock" button on the fob, it will set the car to an "unlocked" state too, but I think it will automatically re-lock if you don't open a door within a few minutes of pressing the unlock fob button. If you open the door within the alloted time, the car remains in an unlocked state.
What others are saying is that a locked C7 never moves to an "UNlocked" state just because a known fob happens to walk by.
i.e., the car isn't constantly 'looking' for a known fob. The C7 waits for a physical event (door button press, trunk button press) and THEN sends out a ping, looking for a known fob before it allows the door/hatch to be opened.
Of course, this all happens literally in the blink of an eye, and to us humans, the "locked" door appears to open the moment we press the door pad.

As an aside observation. When closing hatch & allowing latch to pull down & lock, you have to wait for that operation to cease before the door will unlock when inside door release is pressed. I get in a hurry sometimes & have to mentally pause before attempting to open door. I assume (CRAP) that the FOB can only perform one action at a time. Try it.
